The UX Researcher/Designer is the sole UX voice on an eight-person Scrum team working to develop and deploy new online tools for our federal client.
Either US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required for this role. In addition, the selected applicant must submit to a government background investigation and be favorably adjudicated before their first day.
Although this is primarily a telecommuting position, candidates must reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area due to the need to attend periodic on-site meetings and events.
Responsibilities
Research usability and customer experience in the federal government space
Identify target user groups and carry out interviews or other types of inquiry to help understand user needs
Guide the implementation of UX research techniques and testing activities to assess user behavior
Clarify requirements and segregate them into functional and non-functional categories
Present solutions, ideas, and recommendations that serve the requirements
Document the discussions, concepts, and the finalized scope
Create designs that align with the user's needs
Prepare mockups, prototypes, wireframes, and interaction diagrams
Oversee and contribute to the development of the screens
Conduct testing to validate that the developed functionality is in accordance with the scope
Continuously research and strive to understand audience needs better and improve the existing systems
Required Skills
A minimum of 4 years of experience in UX/UI research and design
Experience planning and facilitating a range of research types from usability testing to exploratory discovery projects
Experience collaborating with technology product teams to include product managers, designers, and developers in research
Ability to understand business metrics and translate company goals and objectives into digital experiences
Knowledge of industry tools such as Adobe, Zeplin, OmniGraffle, Illustrator, and Sketch
Knowledge of government culture, digital government strategy, and OMB policies for federal public websites
Familiarity with The Plain Writing Act of 2010 and the e-Government Act of 2003 - Accessibility, Usability, and Preservation of Government Information
Knowledge of accessibility requirements associated with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
Thorough understanding of user interface design, information architecture, and human factors
Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other UI development tools
Understanding of graphic designing and UI designing concepts
Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to handle and coordinate multiple projects at once
Documentation and articulation skills
Innovative and creative outlook
Good command of spoken and written communication
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related discipline is highly desired. An additional four years of UX experience may be acceptable in the place of a degree.

Internal title/grade: Software Engineer, Grade 6
Salary Range: $93,400 - $100,000
All individuals being hired to work for TCG must submit to, and successfully pass, a pre-employment background investigation prior to reporting for their first day of work. The pre-employment background investigation will include verification of employment and education, as well as, a criminal and DMV check.
Additional documentation and background checks will also be required for positions that require clearance from the Federal government.
Salary: $93400.00 - $100000.00 per year
