Job Title: Venture Capital Director

Job Summary: The Venture Capital Director is responsible for leading the organization’s venture capital activities, including sourcing, evaluating, and managing investments in early-stage companies and startups. This role involves developing investment strategies, building and maintaining relationships with entrepreneurs and industry stakeholders, and guiding investment decisions to drive growth and achieve strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement venture capital investment strategies that align with the organization’s goals and objectives, focusing on high-growth potential startups and emerging technologies.
  • Identify, source, and evaluate investment opportunities in early-stage companies, including conducting due diligence, financial analysis, and market research.
  • Lead the negotiation and structuring of investment deals, including terms, valuations, and exit strategies.
  • Manage and oversee the venture capital portfolio, including monitoring performance, supporting portfolio companies, and identifying opportunities for value creation.
  • Build and maintain relationships with entrepreneurs, industry experts, and other venture capitalists to stay informed about market trends and investment opportunities.
  • Prepare and present investment proposals, performance reports, and strategic recommendations to senior management and the investment committee.
  • Collaborate with other departments and senior leadership to align venture capital investments with the organization’s strategic objectives and growth initiatives.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and market conditions to ensure investment strategies remain relevant and effective.
  • Mentor and manage a team of investment professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality investment analysis and execution.
  • Ensure compliance with venture capital regulations, investment policies, and industry best practices, and implement effective controls and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field; Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, or a related field, with at least 5-7 years in a senior management or director-level role.
  • Extensive experience in sourcing, evaluating, and managing investments in early-stage companies and startups.
  • Proficiency with venture capital and investment management software and tools (e.g., financial modeling software, CRM systems).
  • Proven track record of successful investments, including deal structuring, portfolio management, and value creation.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to assess market opportunities and provide actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience presenting investment proposals and performance analyses to senior executives and investment committees.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities, including experience in leading and developing high-performing investment teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of venture capital regulations, industry trends, and best practices in investment management.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
