Neptune Medical is an innovative and ambitious venture capital funded Silicon Valley medical device start-up. We have already commercialized novel medical devices using our Dynamic Rigidization™ technology. Now we are building something truly unique: A fully flexible medical robotic platform (Triton) intended to replace much of manual endoscopy. We believe our technology will be the standard for endoluminal robotics for decades to come.


TITLE: Vice President of Manufacturing


POSITION SUMMARY: The Vice President of Manufacturing is a key member of the leadership team at Neptune. They will initially lead a team focusing on the manufacture of endoscopes that work with our robotic platform. Their responsibilities will most likely expand to include the capital part of robotics. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in establishing, managing and scaling medical device manufacturing operations (particularly catheters and endoscopes) from pre-V&V to high volume, low-cost production in both domestic and international locations.


This is a highly strategic, creative and impactful role at Neptune. We are changing the future of flexible endoscopy, and a key aspect of that work is getting both design and manufacturing right. We particularly value candidates who are adept at creating and telling our manufacturing story to both internal and external (fundraising, business development) audiences.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute a manufacturing strategy that takes our groundbreaking designs successfully from V&V to low-cost, high-volume production, while ensuring product quality.
  • Propose and execute growth strategies for the manufacturing team, write job requisitions, conduct interviews and hire necessary personnel.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and quality standards, working closely with the Quality team to develop and maintain robust quality management systems and compliance with all industry-specific regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and partners to support product development and commercialization.
  • Plan production schedules and develop KPIs for current and next-generation product.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the manufacturing team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Manage the creation of next-generation manufacturing equipment.
  • Lead short-term and long-term financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting to ensure accurate and timely financial projections for senior leadership.
  • Consistently stay ahead – of deadlines, trends and driving the decisions around things that need to be changed or improved.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing science or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
  • At least ten years in medical device manufacturing management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a data-driven approach.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
  • Strong understanding of design controls, regulatory requirements, and quality standards for medical device manufacturing.
  • Experience recruiting, managing, retaining, motivating and leading diverse, high-performance teams.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with high volume production.
  • Familiar with OUS manufacturing.
  • A background in manufacturing catheters or endoscopes.
  • Familiarity and ability to present to business development and fundraising events.
  • Small company or startup experience.
  • Experience with disposables/consumables.
  • Experience working on roboticized surgical or catheter systems.


Neptune Medical is located in Burlingame, CA, near the Millbrae Caltrain and BART station.


The starting base salary for this role is between $250,000 and $300,000 depending on experience. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: education, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for equity, benefits and 401(K) with matching.
