Visiting Lecturer in Communication

SUMMARY:

Visiting Lecturer in Communication teaching responsibilities will include teaching Public Speaking classes for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters and, depending on enrollment, might also include other courses in journalism or public relations. The Department of Communication, Journalism and Public Relations is located in the College of the Arts, which includes Cinema, Dance, Digital Media, Game Design, Graphic Design, Sports Broadcasting, Theatre, Visual Art, and the Preparatory Department, a non-academic initiative offering K-12 instruction in music, dance, and children’s theatre. Typical teaching load for this position is five courses each semester, and t he Visiting Lecturer will report to the Chair of the Department of Communication, Journalism and Public Relations. Rank and salary are commensurate with credentials and experience.


JOB FUNCTION:

  • Teach Public Speaking classes according to syllabus and guidelines approved by department
  • Participate in university service; student recruitment, retention, and progression; and faculty development programs
  • Integrate Christian faith and pedagogy
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in Communication or related field, with a minimum of 18 credit hours in communication
  • Record of successful teaching and Service
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills, as well as conflict resolution
  • Commitment to shared governance and consensus building within a university setting
  • Experience with and commitment to building community across and with programs, departments and schools
  • Possess interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues and will have a demonstrated commitment to creating, fostering and sustaining a culture that celebrates entrepreneurship, innovation, and collaboration in and out of the classroom.
  • Attention to detail, effective oral and written communication, consensus building, creative problem solving, professionalism, and intrinsic work ethic.
  • S elf-motivated person will bring the inspiration and enthusiasm required to advance creative momentum, ensuring the department’s achievements are broadcast widely and strategically.
