About The Affiliated Organization

The Health Emergency Initiative (HEI) was founded by Ashoka Fellow Paschal Achunine with the primary objective of transforming emergency healthcare in Nigeria. Recognizing the dire need for timely access to essential healthcare services, especially among indigent patients and vulnerable segments of society, HEI emerged as a beacon of hope to address this critical issue. HEI operates beyond conventional charitable efforts, assuming the role of the next of kin for emergency victims. The organization intervenes within the crucial first 24 hours of emergencies, making initial deposits to stabilize and resuscitate individuals. This proactive approach aims to bridge the gap between emergency occurrences and medical intervention, ultimately saving lives.

One of the key aspects of HEI's approach is its transformative stance on emergency medical care. By adopting a comprehensive strategy that encompasses both pre and post-hospital arrival phases, HEI empowers citizens as first responders. Through tech-enabled CPR/First Aid training and other initiatives, individuals are equipped with the necessary skills to provide effective post-crash care and support, thereby enhancing the overall emergency response landscape in Nigeria. Furthermore, HEI strategically collaborates with existing institutions and cultivates robust partnerships to systematically address critical gaps within the emergency healthcare space across Nigeria. This deliberate approach not only strengthens the healthcare system but also contributes to creating a more resilient and responsive emergency infrastructure.

In essence, HEI's founding mission revolves around ensuring that individuals in urgent need receive prompt and compassionate care and support. By redefining emergency medical care, empowering citizens, and forging strategic collaborations, HEI endeavors to make a lasting impact on the healthcare landscape in Nigeria.
