- If you want to design equity assessments that succeed, there are some key nuances you'll have to understand. Following the three Rs, relevance, respect, and responsibility, can help ensure that your equity assessments are both effective and ethical. The first principle, relevance, is about making sure that your assessment is taken seriously by the people filling it out. Ensuring relevance might mean wording questions in a way that avoids making assumptions about your audience. For example, wording a question as, "How would you rate the frequency with which your manager provides useful feedback?" Versus, "How many times does your manager offer written feedback during each weekly one-on-one meeting?" The second wording is so specific that it both assumes that all respondents have one-on-one meetings, and that feedback is only valuable if it's written.
