What you should know
- [Narrator] Not all Android devices are alike. In this course. I use this device, a Google Pixel phone, which more or less uses the stock version of the Android operating system. Other phones, such as those from Samsung, use the Android operating system but some things may not look the same. For example, this device uses gesture navigation, screen swipes, instead of the traditional navigation icons at the bottom of the screen. To get the most from this course and your device, you must know how to access the Settings app. Here, I've placed its launcher icon on the Home screen. The app can also be located in the Apps Drawer. From just above the bottom edge, swipe up the screen and here's the Apps Drawer. Scroll the apps, and there's the Settings app. The Settings app may also be accessed from the Quick Settings or Navigation Drawer. Swipe down the touchscreen to view the Quick Settings and locate the Settings app gear icon here. If you don't see it, swipe twice so that you can see all the Quick Settings. Tap the gear icon to launch the Settings app. The Settings app on your device may not look exactly as shown here. The categories have different names. Here it says Network and Internet but on Samsung devices it says Connections. The secret is to use this, the search bar, to look for things. For example, to find Wifi settings, tap in the search bar and type in Wifi or just enough until you see the Wifi setting right here. On this device, to restore the traditional navigation icons, type Navigation, choose System Navigation and you can select Three Button Navigation to restore the original icons, back, home and recent are the overview. That's enough to help get you started. The rest is explored throughout this course, Your Essential Android Training.
