How people perceive their locus of control
- In the workplace, the phrases I've got this or we can change this if we work together. All these represent strongly contrasting approaches to autonomy, employee motivation, and even when responding to challenges. Both approaches reflect the extent of control individuals believe they have in their workplace, which is influenced by their own personal outlook and their company's culture. I saved this cultural dimension as the last video for you in this chapter because locus of control involves both individual temperament and cultural influences. Examples include self or group reliance, power differential, and comfort with uncertainty. Locus of control is the degree to which people accept personal responsibility of what happens to them and believe they have control of. A person with an internal locus of control is doing oriented, leaving nothing to chance or fate.
