The impact of teleworking
- Remote activities such as teleworking, video conferencing, telemedicine, and distance education, among others have a significant impact on the environment. Teleworking can reduce the use of fossil fuels, and therefore the carbon footprint when people who work remotely do not have to use fuel to travel to work daily. But when we are working from home, we tend to spend more time on technology using more digital resources, and we need to be conscious of that. There are various practices that you can follow to take care of the environment when performing remote activities. Shorten the time of video conferencing or video calls as much as possible to use less data and cloud resources. Avoid recording online meetings. Delete online meetings from service after a certain time. Share documents through cloud spaces, avoiding sending several emails with heavy attachments. Consider all the recommendations we share for energy savings, device use, and digital asset treatment that also applied to remote work, telemedicine, and distance education, and, of course, print as little as possible. Take a moment now to think about what you can do. Do you have any fresh ideas or recommendations? If so, add them in the Q and A section of this course. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
