From the course: Electrical Systems: Communications and Data

The nervous system of the world

- [Christopher] Ever since electricity was first discovered, it has revolutionized the way we communicate and share information. First the telegraph in 1832. For the first time in history, sending messages didn't require a person, a horse, or a pigeon, but rather pulses of electricity sent over a pair of copper wires from one town to the next. Then the radio, satellite, television, computers, mobile phones, and the internet. Now there are billions of little pieces of information, known as bits, traveling through the air and through cables into our very hands. Follow me, Christopher Randall, as we look at the different types of communication cables, devices, and connectivity, as well as the unique and ever evolving work of designing and installing new communication systems. Let's get started.
