Understanding cryptography terminology

- [Instructor] Now, let's review some key terms so we're all speaking the same language, and to determine how best to implement cryptography services. You'll also find all review terms and many more in the glossary provided in the exercise files. Earlier, we provided a basic definition of cryptography as the process of making information readable to only those individuals who are authorized to read it. Another related term is cryptoanalysis, which is the science of finding weaknesses in cryptographic systems and figuring out how to break them. These two terms fall under the umbrella of cryptology. The term cryptology is derived from cryptos, hidden or secret. And logo, word, or logia, study. Cryptology represents the science of combining cryptography and crypto analysis. In short, cryptography is referred to as secret writing, and crypto analysis is referred to as secret breaking. There's a few basic terms you'll also need to know.
