- [Instructor] SRE, or Site Reliability Engineering. Let's talk through what a SRE really is. In terms of SRE, it is a discipline that focuses on building and running reliable, scalable, and efficient systems. The goal of an SRE is how you can actually use it to shape modern infrastructure management approaches. And we're going to get into that in a second. And also, we're going to talk about traditional operations and how this is similar but also different in both the approach and the mindset. So in terms of the principles of SRE, a few things to consider are prioritizing reliability. Really, that's one of the key goals. And also to establish a service-level objective, or SLO, and to reduce the toil or reduce the suffering through automation.
