- [Instructor] Let's take a look at some static routing using two laptops in a layer three course, which in the middle as we see here. Laptop one is on the 192.168.1 subnet, which is the same as VLAN one and port one on our layer three switch. Port two and VLAN two is the same subnet as laptop two 192.168.2, and the goal here is to route data back and forth between laptop one and laptop two, and we'll do that using static routing. I'm logged into laptop one. We can see highlighted the laptop IP address 192.164.1.4 just as we saw in the graphic, and now I'm going to attempt to ping 192.168.2.4, and I can't do it, and that's because our static route is not yet set up. Let's also take a look at our layer three switch and see how it's configured. I'm logged into the layer three switch and we can see routing is turned on with the command IP space routing.
