- [Instructor] Threats can come from a number of different sources that include hackers, malware, or even a disgruntled employee. Hardening is taking steps to protect our systems and minimize our exposure to threats. Let's review some common best practice methods to protect and defend our systems. Use antivirus and anti-spyware protection and schedule daily automatic definition updates and scans. Secure email system to minimize threats. Do not open suspicious email attachments or respond to requests from unknown senders. Backup and secure all data files. Make sure you use strong passwords or passphrases for all user accounts. Disable any unneeded user accounts and remove any unnecessary programs. As you can see, there are a number of things that we can do to harden a system. A security baseline ensures that the configuration settings for all devices are in line with an organization's minimum security standards and that all devices are properly secured.
