- [Instructor] Let's talk about an interesting topic called tracing. Tracing allows you to track events that occur on the Junos device. And this includes both normal operations and error conditions. Tracing is the Junos term for what other vendors call as debug. So if you worked on equipment from other vendors, you might have heard people say that they want to debug the traffic flow. Tracing is debugging on a Junos device. When enabled a trace file is created that is used to store decoded protocol information received or sent by the routing engine. Tracing results are sent to a specific file stored in the /var/logdirectory or it can also be configured to be sent to a remote syslog server. The advantage of sending trace files to a remote syslog server is that it reduces the use of the device's internal storage. By default, remote tracing is not configured.
