Lean transportation
- Lean practices are all about optimizing the entire system, and nowhere is that more true than in the transportation role. Transportation is usually the first step and the final step in managing your supply chain. A supply chain is the network of suppliers, manufacturers, and distributors that make your product available to your customers. Goods are transported from suppliers through the network and to the customer. Traditionally, lean principles focus on eliminating waste and reducing costs in the supply chain. This is commonly called an efficient supply chain. Lean transportation, for example, works hard to shorten distribution channels and schedule efficient delivery routes. One practice in lean transportation is to always use full truckloads when moving product and materials through the supply chain.
