- [Narrator] You need to know more than 3D modeling to make a successful 3D print. When you take a file from digital to reality, there are practical concerns that are important to keep in mind. Analyze your design for specific requirements. Are you making a product or a prototype? And how might that affect your material requirements? Does the design need to be food safe or medical grade? Does the design need to tolerate heat or corrosion? Does the design need to be flexible or stiff? Does it need to hold water? Are there weight requirements and is the design large with minimum detail or small with intricate detail? Once you've narrowed your scope, it's important to understand design guidelines. 3D printing services have design guidelines for each additive manufacturing technology that they provide.
