- Earlier, I discussed some broad foundational principles of data governance. Now let's drill down further into specific core focus areas. For this, we'll explore policy, quality, compliance, and business intelligence. Policy may be the area that you think most about when you consider data governance. Policy is defined as a set of guidelines that are enforced by our governing body to achieve goals. Documented and approved guidelines in the form of policy helps organizations achieve good data governance. After all, people deserve to know the rules so they can support the organization and meet or exceed expectations. Each organizations will need to define their policies since they must reflect its vision, goals, and culture. Next, what does data quality deal with?
