Leveraging visual hooks and cues
- One of the biggest pros of this design is the heart in the center of it. Infographics that provide a visual hook, do a far better job at capturing the attention of diverse audiences. When an infographic is designed for print, the visual hook should be in the center of the page. When an infographic follows a traditional long scroll approach, the visual hook should be in the heading or part of the title of the design itself. For this design in particular, the heart itself could have had a band-aid on it or some other element to better represent the topic of heart failure. You see, great infographics take advantage of visual symbolism and visual metaphors. Imagine if a literal failing heart was used in this design, instead of a heart with a bandaid, only a select few would actually see the literal image and quickly decipher its meaning but if you show a heart with a band-aid on it, I'm willing to bet a very wide array of…
