- Reality. Things change. Projects get dropped or suddenly become hyper-critical. Strategic goals move in new directions. Leadership and other workers move into new roles or new people come in or people leave. All these changes have the potential to cause uncertainty and stress. This is perhaps even greater with remote employees since they can feel out of the loop with stuff happening at headquarters. So it's critical for the manager of a remote team to communicate any changes to the team's goals or priorities immediately. There is too much opportunity for wasted effort if information isn't shared promptly, and you want to get ahead of the rumor mill. I've seen organizations spin themselves into paralysis because of poorly communicated changes. Everyone knew there was something in the works, but no one knew how to react and so a lot of people just hunkered down and didn't do anything for a bit. My suggestion is that an…
