Should you negotiate your salary?
This is how to negotiate your salary as an intern. Keep in mind that I know it's scary, but recruiters expect you to negotiate and they will never ever retract an offer just because you ask. So this is what I want you to do. Send them an email thanking them for the offer and asking if you can get on the phone with them and during your phone call, you want to say something like this, "Thank you so much for the offer. I'm really looking forward to working with the team this summer. Just wanted to ask, is there any wiggle room here with the starting salary? Given my background and skills in X, Y, Z, I was expecting a range closer to $40 an hour. Is that possible here?" Try that script out for yourself, and remember, you are worth it. So negotiate your pay. Good luck.
