Measure progress, simply
- You know, if progress is solely measured by adding more work or doing more tasks, I think we risk overlooking some very key strategies that could drive value in the organization and for ourselves. It's time to incorporate simplification metrics into performance tracking and reward people for it. This is going to help us achieve desired behaviors 'cause we'll focus on the areas of improvement and give people metrics and goals that they can meet. So for example, do you want shorter, more focused meetings, track cost savings from reduced time spent in meetings, or less time consuming workflows? Track the reduction in the number of reports used by your team? Or how about faster decision making? Wouldn't that be great? Track the amount of time it takes to collect data to making a decision. True value in the company isn't just measured by what we do, but also what we stop doing. And by measuring what people streamline or eliminate, we're going to drive positive behavior change and also have a more effective, satisfying workplace.
