I am glad to share my latest article with my colleague and friend Eileen Taylor, which addresses the complex rise of far-right ideologies in today's socio-political landscape in Europe for Politics4Her: "Crossroads: The Rise of the Far Right and the Future of Europe".
Throughout the article, we explore five different case studies around Europe and how they paint a wider scene of political discontentment, rising violence and inequalities. As these ideologies gain ground, it's crucial to delve deeper into their origins, impacts, implications and challenges they pose to our democracy. We focus especially on impacts for more vulnerable communities, such as women, people of colour, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities and with less socioeconomic means.
"In a world where every breath is political, we are constantly confronted with political choices and decisions - the simple act of “being” is political. However, being our true selves is a privilege for some. (...) In the upcoming European elections, voting is also an act of resistance."

I'm excited to share that my colleague and friend, Érica Moreira, and I have published our article, "Crossroads: The Rise of the Far Right and the Future of Europe," on Politics4Her. Our article explores the current political scene in Europe, where personal identity can be a political statement. But some people, like people of color, women, those with disabilities, and those who are queer or trans, may not always have the freedom to be themselves.
We look at the growth of far-right politics in Europe and what this could mean for the future, especially with the upcoming EU elections. The far-right could influence Europe’s policies, possibly affecting EU values on the rule of law, human rights, and green and climate laws. Even a small far-right presence can threaten our rights and freedom.
Professor Simon Hix predicts a significant shift to the right, with the far-right group Identity & Democracy (ID) gaining 40 more seats in the European Parliament. Voting in these elections is a way to resist this change and stand up for equality, inclusion, and a future where everyone can flourish.
Let's spread the word and engage in meaningful discussions about the future of Europe!

This news is much broader than politics. It is all about what we want to achieve and get for our society.
In the current context, this news boosts me and gives me new faith in our commun capacity to make things move forward ♥️♥️

The Republican GOP PROJECT 2025 government take over plan in the 2024 Presidential Election to include four Pillars “Mandate, Recruitment Project, Presidential Training Academy, and the Playbook.”
https://lnkd.in/eyjy9VQz
Project 2025 envisions widespread changes across the government, particularly economic and social policies and the role of the federal government and its agencies. The plan proposes slashing funding for the Department of Justice (DOJ), dismantling the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS), sharply reducing environmental and climate change regulations to favor fossil fuel production, eliminating the Department of Commerce, and ending the independence of federal agencies such as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Project 2025 recommends abolishing the Department of Education, whose programs would be either transferred to other agencies, or terminated. Cutting funding for climate research while the National Institutes of Health (NIH) would be reformed along conservative principles. The Project urges government to explicitly reject abortion as health care and eliminate the Affordable Care Act coverage of emergency contraception. The Project seeks to infuse the government with elements of Christianity.
Project 2025 proposes criminalizing pornography, removing protections against discrimination based on sexual or gender identity, and terminating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, as well as affirmative action.
The Project advises the future president to immediately deploy the military for domestic law enforcement and direct the DOJ to pursue Donald Trump's adversaries by invoking the Insurrection Act of 1807.
Policy - to build a total authoritarian dictatorship, to gut governmental bodies (administrative Agencies) which governs federal and state level government, FDA, EPA, CDC, DOH, FBI, etc! Placing all national power to the President under the control of the elite!
Outlawing China media control technology, Pornography, Same sex marriage and LGBTQ 🏳️🌈
Outlawing and removal of Books that speaks of anything that doesn’t follow and include National Christianity

Project 2025 critics described it as an authoritarian Christian nationalist movement and a path for the United States to become an autocracy. Several experts in law have indicated that it would undermine the rule of law and the separation of powers. Some conservatives and Republicans criticized the plan, for example in the contexts of centralizing power, climate change, and foreign trade.

In Sandal’s opinion piece well worth reading, the following statement seems key: “The Harris campaign should not only defend these achievements [of the Biden administration] but also embark on something more ambitious: a project of democratic renewal that goes beyond merely saving democracy from Mr. Trump. “
It appears that with initiatives like the Conference on the Future of Europe, the European Green Deal, the New European Bauhaus as well as the #EuropeanUniversityAlliances, we in Europe are on a promising and inspiring path.
The Right has been studying Antonio Gramsci's ideas on culture and ideology, leading to a strategic focus on regaining institutional power. This essay explores one such effort, #Project2025, a blueprint for right-wing dominance if Trump wins the 2024 election.

Constitutions used to be a symbol of national identity. In democracies, they state the principles and ideals that citizens can rally around. But does this still work today?
We want to take a closer look at the role constitutions play in the United States and Germany. In trying times for Western societies, can constitutions still serve as a guideline and common ground for all? Or are these texts locked in the past and cannot help us as we argue about free speech, gun violence, minority rights, abortion, and the environment? Worse even, will they actually keep us from finding a way forward?
Join us with OPEM - Open Embassy for Democracy on July 24th with journalist and podcast host Hanna Israel and US public historian Shelby Dains, M.A. to debate this very question!

In today's turbulent political landscape, we must ensure diverse political representation is met in order to drive a more inclusive and innovative future.
As we enter 2024, the complex political landscape in the United States, marked by division and a struggling Congress, presents unique challenges and opportunities for Christian engagement in public policy.
#Rural#Rage: the roots of right-wing #populism in the #UnitedStates - https://lnkd.in/g5UcBF8A || PDF: https://lnkd.in/gqTWj7Rt
In the United States, right-wing populism is a major factor in national politics, as evidenced by the election of #DonaldTrump as President of the United States in 2015. #Rightwing populism is defined by an appeal to ‘people’ (usually white, heterosexual Christians) to rebel – against both liberal ‘elites’ from above and ‘subversives’ and ‘parasites’ from below – by engaging in a hardline brand of conservative politics. There are a variety of right-wing populist political currents in the U.S. One of the most visible is the contemporary ‘Patriot’ movement, which is the successor to the Armed Citizens Militia movement which swept the across the nation in the 1990s. Today, the core #PatriotMovement groups are united by an interpretation of the Constitution that derides federal power (especially regarding environmental regulations, public lands, and progressive taxation) and advocates for a radical brand of right-wing decentralization. This opposition to #federalgovernment policies is framed in a way that inflames preexisting White, #ChristianNationalism (including anti-immigrant #xenophobia and Islamophobia), as well as Christian Right support for #patriarchy and opposition to #LGBTQrights.
