Recent weeks have been a lot to take in. With constant travel, from heartfelt visits with our teams across the APAC region for CNY to an enriching trip to Thailand, not to mention the exhilarating official opening of Welbilt’s new customer experience centre in Singapore, there has just been no end to the activity! Each journey, each heart-to-heart conversation, has been an experience to remember. And herein lies the problem - We must make time to soak it all in. Not just in the moment but after the dust has settled and we’ve had a second to wrap our heads around it all. In these moments of reflection, I find the most impactful lessons. I can truly sit and digest the many insights gathered along the way, taking them from simple thoughts and ideas and turning them into clear and direct action. Reflection is a powerful tool. It allows us to internalise every lesson and every interaction and use them to fuel our growth. In the rapid pace of our lives, especially in a leadership role, it’s easy to move from one milestone to the next without truly absorbing the wealth of knowledge and understanding each brings. As I look ahead to more travels, more meetings, and the continuous journey of growth with Welbilt, I’m reminded of the importance of finding downtime - not just for rest but as a crucial practice in leadership and personal development. Exciting Insights from the International Talent Development Program: Nurturing a Customer-Centric Culture  Our current International Talent Development Program embarked on a multi-day journey, immersing themselves in the intricacies of our people-centric business strategy. Designed to foster a globally minded workforce, the program encourages cross-functional collaboration, a focus on external insights, and the development of a holistic business perspective.      The trip commenced with a visit to a flaschenpost SE warehouse, providing a rare behind-the-scenes look into the magic driving our product distribution. Participants gained firsthand insights into logistics, ensuring a seamless delivery process. Venturing into last-mile delivery challenges, they joined a delivery shift, directly engaging with customers.      Transitioning to the modern collaborative offices of Oetker Digital, the program delved into the heart of Consumer Centricity. Through workshops led by colleagues, utilizing interviews and interactive sessions, empathy maps were created.     The event was a resounding success, blending practical experiences with insightful workshops. “If people were inherently creative and inclined to be passionate about their work, they should take the lead in designing their own work environments.”   This is the insight which led a plant manager at the 125 year old company Michelin, Betrand Ballarin, to experiment with front line supervisors to reimagine how to collaborate together and encourage more creativity and flexibility. The impressive aspect of this successful transformation was his focus on the SOCIAL DIMENSION. It was all about the PEOPLE at Michelin: ✨ To share a collective purpose with each other 🚀 To aspire to up-grade everyone’s skills - both production workers and managers 👨🏭 To provide more freedom for the production teams to tap into their own collective intelligence on how to optimize the production system   What’s remarkable is that Ballarin convinced management to try-out a Bottom-Up Initiative. He believed that: “The only help which they (the teams) need (to discover solutions) is for you to encourage them to be bolder and more creative.”   A 1 year process began with diverse frontline teams to focus on new ways to work with each other, risk trying new ideas and continuously experiment. The really amazing factor? There was NO management interference at all!   For someone who advocates the use of collective intelligence to enhance the quality of collaboration, the emerging recommendations from this initiative are remarkable:   ✨ Cultivation of a shared mission and objectives 🎯 Experimentation with novel ways to organize work 📚 Commitment to develop the competencies of employees 💡 Advancement of innovation throughout the company 🤝 Collaboration with others throughout the production team / company 📋 Management of employee performance   The quality of these results speak for themselves. The focus shifted to the WHAT of the business, from the how. In addition, it enabled the employees to take the lead, rather than having leaders and supervisors make decisions for them.   This process enabled Michelin to regain the spirit of its founder, Edouard Michelin, who once stated: “One of our principles is to give responsibility to the person who carries out a given task because he knows a lot about it.”   Makes complete sense, doesn’t it?
