❓ Of course #COVID-19 has reminded us how rapidly a simple case can become a situation but Do you know how much climate change and human health are linked? If we zoom in: Australia is directly threatened by #climate disasters (heatwaves, floods, droughts, bushfires), which will become increasingly frequent and violent. A clear example is the 2019-20 Black Summer bushfire when the total smoke-related physical health costs during the period have been estimated at AUD $1.95 billion. 💡 Fortunately, researchers around the world and around Australia are working for solutions through the #OneHealth approach and Dr Tony Capon for Monash Sustainable Development Institute is one of outstanding researchers. Curious to learn more about those challenges and solutions? New $300 million USD commitment announced to tackle three major global health issues in developing countries: - Infectious diseases - Climate change - Poor nutrition This funding will be focused on enhancing research and improving access to health technologies. More research is always good news. But what I find most interesting is that this initiative will push for action in health tech. In developing economies, health challenges can be solved with more action: better resource allocation, empowering local communities, and introducing models that work in other territories. https://lnkd.in/gKMgrGZG

This #WorldOxygenDay, we reassert the need for sustained financing to increase access to medical oxygen. With end-to-end expertise in the oxygen ecosystem, PATH supports countries in improving access to sustainable, high-quality oxygen therapy at all levels of the health care system. Scaling up access to oxygen delivery is critical to reduce preventable deaths. But many health facilities in the Global South lack functioning oxygen delivery systems. By building networks, collaborating, and sharing knowledge, countries can learn from each other's experiences. This is a key strategy in improving oxygen availability globally. #WorldOxygenDay #OxygenAccess USAID | World Health Organization South-East Asia | World Health Organization | Unitaid Asian Development Bank (ADB) |Australian Aid | The World Bank |Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) |UNOPS Cure Kids |Pacific Region Infrastructure Facility| The Global Fund |Every Breath Counts Coalition | COPD Foundation | The Lancet| The Commonwealth | The DAK Foundation |RAWCS - Rotary Australia World Community Service | European Union | Association of Pulmonary Advanced Practice Providers |American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) | The LAM Foundation PATH | Leith Greenslade | Lisa Smith

What steps can we take to build a resilient global health system in the face of emerging threats? 📅 13-15 June 2024 📍 Borgo Egnazia, Apulia, Italy Ahead of the G7 Summit, the Think7 (T7) Policy Brief, emphasises "One World, One Health" to enhance global health systems. Think7 (T7) is the official think tank engagement group of the G7. By fostering coordination, innovation, equal access and sustainable funding, the aim is to build health systems that are proactive and capable of preventing crises. Key Areas of Focus: 1️⃣ Empowering Global Health Architecture 🩺 🔹 Strengthening collaboration among key health organisations like the Global Fund, WHO, GAVI and Unitaid. 🔹 Enhancing pandemic preparedness and response mechanisms. 🔹 Addressing neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and antimicrobial resistance. 2️⃣ Integrating Pandemic Preparedness into UHC 🏥 🔹 Emphasising primary healthcare as the first line of defence. 🔹 Establishing a task force for the One Health approach, recognising the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health. 3️⃣ Combating Antimicrobial Resistance 💊 🔹 Improving access to antimicrobials and developing new therapeutic agents. 🔹 Strengthening global surveillance systems and health infrastructures, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). 4️⃣ Strengthening Local Health Commodity Manufacturing in Africa 🌍 🔹 Supporting regional manufacturing of vaccines, diagnostics and treatment commodities. 🔹 Encouraging economic development and health sovereignty through local production. 5️⃣ Navigating the Health Impacts of Climate Change 🌡️ 🔹 Protecting vulnerable populations from climate-sensitive diseases. 🔹 Promoting integrated financing of climate action within the global health architecture. 6️⃣ Harnessing Generative AI in Healthcare 🤖 🔹 Utilising AI to enhance healthcare delivery and outcomes. 🔹 Ensuring responsible, transparent and inclusive use of AI technologies. The Goal: To build resilient and adaptive health systems worldwide, capable of addressing current challenges and preparing for future health crises. The T7 Policy Brief outlines a collaborative framework among G7 nations, in collaboration with the G20 and pivotal global health entities, to significantly elevate health outcomes globally, with a focus on bolstering support for LMICs. ♻️ Repost this to spread awareness! Thank you! PS: What innovative solutions do you think can strengthen global health systems for the future? Share your ideas below! #G7Summit #GlobalHealth #HealthcareAdvocacy

Last October, on the margins of the #WorldHealthSummit, we and International SOS convened a multisectoral panel of experts to discuss progress made in leveraging the wider private sector towards achieving #globalhealth goals. The panel highlighted the importance of public-private sector engagement and called for a new model to leverage private sector expertise and resources to accelerate joint action and deliver impactful solutions on a larger scale. Five key themes emerged from the discussion, providing a roadmap for greater collaboration across sectors and industries to achieve more together, faster: - Build an Environment of Trust: Establishing shared goals and a common vision between sectors is essential to fostering trust and collaboration in global health. - Take a Longer-Term View: By adopting a longer-term perspective, public and private sectors can work together to build a resilient and adaptive ecosystem that addresses global health challenges in a sustained and impactful manner. - Create Innovative Structures for Implementing Strategic Projects: Create innovative approaches whereby multilaterals, private sector, and development banks implement strategic projects, working closely with local governments and other delivery organizations. - Involve the Private Sector Early: Bring private sector delivery partners in early and engage them through the transparent sharing of data. - Build Capacity & Transfer Knowledge: Collaborative efforts can focus on building and strengthening the capacity of both the public and private sectors. We extend thanks to our moderator Isabelle Hagner, and expert panelists Charlotte S. Schmidt, Dr. Alois Dörlemann, Joy Phumaphi, Marco Annas, and Jürgen Kretz for their participation and thoughtful comments.
