Automatic control at the terminal gate on the operating carrier. This new way of working always ensures that the right driver is given access to the terminal. Hutchison Ports Delta II on the Maasvlakte, as the third container terminal in Rotterdam, has started rolling out this final link in the Secure Chain. The check is done by comparing the EAN number on the visiting driver's CargoCard with the EAN number in the carrier's Portbase pre-notification. Only if both numbers match will the gate open. Hutchison Ports Delta II will soon make participation mandatory, but carriers can already participate on a voluntary basis now. Signing up can be done here: https://bit.ly/458KojX At the ECT Delta terminal and the ECT Euromax terminal, the obligation already exists. The other Rotterdam deep-sea terminals are also preparing to introduce operating carrier checks. #securechain #smartports #resilientports

Our Swiss WorldCargo Dangerous Goods expert Patrick Ehrensperger was recently featured in the SWISS video series “Ask the Expert”. He shed light on the particularities of transporting batteries, rechargeable batteries or power banks on passenger aircraft. Due to potential safety hazards caused by loose batteries, they must always be stored in the passengers’ carry-on baggage. When it comes to cargo, we can transport devices with batteries as cargo consignments in line with Dangerous Goods regulations. Our SWISS Vulnerables Product offers tailored solutions for transporting Electronics and High-Tech Products. Combined with the Transportation Solution Dangerous Goods, the necessary precautions can be taken to ensure the safe and compliant shipment of our customers’ sensitive electronics. Our skilled personnel are trained to handle dangerous and sensitive goods and enhanced security measures are implemented for every step of the shipment’s way. See in the video below how Patrick elaborates on the risks of transporting loose batteries in checked baggage, what is important in case of emergencies with batteries, and the processes employed to detect them in the passengers’ baggage.

We would like to present you with some intriguing information: When a consolidation comprising multiple items is loaded into a single container (Unit Load Device or ULD), the count in Box 22A will be indicated as '1,' reflecting that only one unit (one ULD) will be delivered to the carrier. The 'SLAC' entry will provide the carrier with information regarding the number of individual pieces contained within the ULD. In the below example, a single Unit Load Device (ULD) has been loaded with nine pieces of machinery parts, with a total weight of 4,650 pounds. The tare weight of the ULD is 286 pounds.
