Results announcement day. Remember those moments when you’re waiting for the call/email to notify you of the results? That few hours where you can’t do anything productive except pace around the room, refreshing your email every 5 seconds… For us (me), to kill time and for sanity sake, we start imagining the worst and we (I) try to find a scapegoat to take the fall if we truly lost the tender. Recently, we participated in a tender exercise and was given the date they’d announce their decision. I started checking my email every few minutes from morning. By noon, still no news. By 3pm, we go to our group chat and start post-mortem. What did we do wrong. “Should have sealed the tender envelope with glue, not your saliva.” “Did you get a professional to bind the proposal or did you just stapler the doc?” “If we lose it’s because our colour printing is not nice enough.” “Next time I’m asking Ms E. to deliver, because the last time she did we won that tender.” “Ok, that’s it. Next time we’ll just give FOC service so that we don’t lose.” “From now onwards, the person delivering the proposal must wear red underwear for good luck.” Alas, the email came in at 5.30pm. We won.
