We have researched and developed devices that use ultrasound for joining and have provided them to industry. And finally, we can now understand the noise that machines whisper to us. Yes, we can judge the quality of a joint by the sound it radiates during joining. Our experimental equipment determines the quality of the joining immediately after the process is finished. Ultrasonic joining takes less than a second, but it is enough time to make a decision of okay or no good. We will soon install a demo-system in my laboratory. While #synthesizing #nanomaterials, I used #xray #diffraction to figure out what it is that I had made. Its something like #magic. Knowing how it works doesn't make it any less magical. You fire an #xray beam at a sample at varying angles and measure how much #energy reaches the detector. From just this information you can extract the spectral absorption characteristics and determine not only what specific material it is but also some of its #nanocrystaline #lattice structure. #AI has its place in this process.
