I have a milestone to share!!! ✨ My paper "Parsing Post-Deployment Students’ Feedback: Towards a Student-Centered Intelligent Monitoring System to Support Self-Regulated Learning" has been accepted at the Artificial Intelligence in Education Conference 2024, held in Brazil Recife! 🚀 In this study, we delve into over a decade of student feedback collected via surveys from over 500 participants. Our goal? To refine and enhance Learning Activity Monitoring Systems (LAMS) used in a public, minority-serving educational institution in the US. Key takeaways: - 📊 Our analysis offers a deep dive into how students perceive and utilize LAMS in their learning environments. - 💡 We highlight the critical balance needed between machine intelligence and promoting student autonomy. - 🚀 Insights from this research will help in developing more responsive and student-focused educational technologies. This paper is a testament to the importance of listening to and understanding students' authentic voices. By integrating their feedback, we aim to support and improve self-regulated learning, making educational tools not only smarter but also more intuitive and user-friendly. I co-authored the paper with Andrea Kleinsmith, Karen Chen, and John Fritz and I grateful for their help in assisting and guiding me through the process of qualitative research and handling large-scale qualitative data. Stay tuned for more updates and insights as we prepare for the conference! #AIED2024 #EducationTechnology #LearningAnalytics #StudentFeedback #AcademicResearch #InnovativeEducation #QualitativeResearch #QualitativeAnalysis

Educational Innovation Consultant - highly experienced in the strategic application of learning technologies.
AI is going to revolutionise higher education??? We had the technology to revolutionise higher education 10, 15 maybe 20 years ago. When it comes to innovation and change in higher education there are many barriers. Technology is not really the issue. Can we innovate if we don't address these barriers. I'll be hosting a 1-hour workshop "Exploring Barriers to Change in Higher Education" at EdTech2024 this Thursday. In Eurovision style we'll be identifying and scoring ideas to see if we can agree on the main barriers. I'm not sure we'll succeed but no doubt we will learn a lot from each other. Hope to see you there. Conference Details: · Title: EdTech Horizons: Preparing for Tomorrow's Learning Landscape · Venue: Atlantic Technological University, Sligo Campus · Dates: May 30 – 31, 2024 Follow this link to register today - https://lnkd.in/eQWeTNw2 The conference programme is here - https://lnkd.in/efHxbz68

This talk will open up a conversation about using speculative approaches to shape how we understand the digital university. The particular focus here will be on curiosity about the future, and how sensitivity to a situation which is either on the horizon or missing from current thinking around a topic or practice can open up possibilities and defamiliarise current understandings by foregrounding less-visible forces in higher education and digital pedagogy. https://lnkd.in/d79e__hx

Why do some edtech tools work well in one district but fail in another? The answer lies not necessarily in the tool itself, but in the context in which it is used. Join us at #CoSN2024! Stephanie Loeck (tag EdTech Evidence Exchange) and Erin Mote (tag InnovateEDU) will present "Using Evidence to Support Effective EdTech Selection and Implementation Decisions" on 4/9 at 10:30 AM ET https://ow.ly/9zza50R7Gl7 More often than not, districts fail to consider contextual factors in a systematic way. The EdTech Context Inventory (CI) is a validated survey that measures 10 factors affecting edtech implementation success in a district's edtech environment. In this session, participants will learn how districts can easily integrate these 10 factors into systematic edtech decision-making practices and research.
