Friday, I kinda showed up a little late. But I started w/ my run, like usual, then I did… • 5K Run: Started at 7.0mph, & ran that speed for the 1st 10 minutes. At 10 minutes, I slowed down to 6.0mph. At 12:30, I sped up to 6.2mph. At 12:45, I sped up to 6.5mph. I should have only run 7.0mph for the 1st FIVE minutes, because I was really tired &, at 17:00, walked at 3.0mph for 1 minute; at 18:00, I sped back up to 6.0mph. At ~21 minutes, I sped back up to 6.5mph. At 3 miles, I sprinted at 12.4mph for the last 0.11 miles. The treadmill took a couple minutes to read my pulse, but it only said it was 91 bpm & started going down, so I think the sensors are messed up. • Hip Abductors Machine: 3 sets of 12 w/ 130 lbs. • Lying Leg Curl: 3 sets of 12 w/ 15 lbs, each leg. • Yoga Ball: Squeeze yoga ball between knees, 3 sets of 12. • Sitting Benchpress Machine: 3 sets of 12 w/ 80 lbs. on each arm, or 160 lbs. total. • T-Bar Row Machine: 2 sets of 12 & 1 set of 20 w/ 50 lbs. • Boxing/Kickboxing: We worked on the classic combos; left/right kick’s, 2’s, 3’s, dips. I also carried 5 separate 30g fishing weights in each glove, while I boxed; each glove weighed 0.831 lbs. Cut the noise and let’s understand scientifically what went wrong in Vinesh losing this journey towards Olympics Gold. Was it Coach’s mistake or something else? Vinesh was found to be overweight by 100 grams which led to her being disqualified for the most important fight of her life. Combat sports like wrestling & boxing are always fought in various weight categories and athletes are bound to be always under the said weight of the respective class they are competing in. For example, Vinesh was fighting in 50kg and she has to be below 50kg. To determine this, there’s weigh-in. WHAT ARE WEIGH-INS? In the case of wrestling at the Olympic Games, weigh-ins are organised each morning of the concerned weight-category. Since competitions are stretched over two days in wrestling with the repechage and medal rounds scheduled on the second day, there are two weigh-ins. The weigh-in time limit for a wrestler on the first day is 30 minutes while it’s 15 minutes on the second day. So basically 2 days in hand with few minutes as well. Let’s understand what body weight comprise of : Fat Mass, Glycogen, Muscle Mass, Water Weight. Everything could have been managed if noted and tracked which means, what an athlete eats, drink, sleep, sleeping temperature. Wake up temperature, supplements and the impact of all these variables on weight when the athlete sleeps, gets up. What is managed in last 1 week ? That’s water. Few things which could be managed in last minutes - Water, Carbs, Salt, Electrolytes. If a track record of these things was maitneined then I don’t think there was a reason we were not able to drop 100 gram. Coaches must be knowing all this, I’m 100% sure. We have all the facilities, equipments, legal drugs . I also saw some people making videos of menstrual cycle. Please understand that no single athlete is on cycle during such events. We have pills to control cycles. It was not the planning of coaches or less equipments. But it could be something else, something bigger which is under the cover.
