Skills vs degree 🎓 In a world where skills speak louder than degrees, the hiring game is leveling up! Gone are the days of judging a book by its cover 📙 (or a candidate by their diploma). It's all about what you bring to the table - your skillset! The shift towards skill-based hiring is creating a more diverse workplace environment. I've noticed here on LinkedIn that head-hunters and coaches are definitely starting to embrace this trend. 👏🏻 It's exciting to see companies valuing skills over traditional qualifications, opening doors to a wider pool of talent. Of course certain professions like doctors and lawyers require a solid educational foundation, just like buildings need a strong foundation. In the past few months, I had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with these lovely ladies. 😊 I had a lot of fun, and in the end, they did too! All of them successfully completed their module on 'Marketing & Law' with me. These ladies have been learning throughout the year, investing a lot of time and effort with the goal of obtaining a 'Dipl. med. Practice Manager' certification. But: What does education mean to you? Is it sufficient to be well-educated? 1. You have an academic title! 2. You attended the best university! 3. And with that, do you already have the ticket to the best jobs? Or does your continuing(!) education start when you're on the job? That's when you see what the job really requires?! What knowledge you still really need? Do we learn the right things in school? Maybe, but certainly not everything! Who supports you in this, or who decides what further education you still need to reach the next level? 95% of jobs including technical can be taught through good practical training if the hired person has knowledge ( education) of it. That’s why international companies give training/ put the hired person on a probation period. Perhaps, the newbie can perform well with better practical experience than someone with previous experience in a particular job category. So, where is more productivity here? Of course the one who can perform well whether experienced in that job or not. The problem is most companies and 3rd party recruiting agents in the uk don’t care or think about this; rather, need someone with a hand-on training/ previous experience in exactly the same job. Instead why can’t the companies create a good team for providing training to those hired? This will help recruiting companies hire enthusiastic and intelligent people. This eventually helps the hired person understand the company culture and job, thereby could work smart. Swimming can be learned self but it takes a long time. If there is a good guidance from someone, you learn in a few days.
