Too often #affordablehousing is created and operated in ways that don’t share power or economic benefits with residents. This further reinforces racial and economic inequities and makes it harder for people living in affordable rental homes – especially people of color - to thrive. Our new case study explores how SAHF member, National Housing Trust, partnered with the Douglass Community Land Trust (DCLT) to preserve permanently affordable homes that benefit residents and are under long-term community control. https://lnkd.in/eBbkJ9Ah

While I daresay NO ONE is more passionate about solving the housing crisis than me, and I strongly support the Governors push to build 35,000 starter homes in the next five years... THIS should not be the outcome! Endless sprawling density with no regard to walkability and long-term community planning (think live, work, play). This is hideous, and it will do nothing to promote quality communities that people want to call home long-term. We can do better. MUCH better! #utah #utahhousing #utahgrowth #utahrealestate #housingaffordability #housingcrisis #housingforall https://lnkd.in/guR4dMug

Heard deep echoes of "The Grapes of Wrath" in Mary C. Daly’s (head of the San Francisco Fed) keynote today at the NICRC community development conference. I couldn’t help but draw parallels between Steinbeck's tale of hardship, struggle, and displacement in her remarks on the state of housing in America. Daly shed light on a stark reality: families forced to leave their homes, their communities, and the very places their ancestors have lived for generations, all in search of affordable living. Cities like Boise, once symbols of affordable living, are now on the frontline of this exodus. The included chart comparing median home value to income over time spotlights the central challenge. What creative solutions are emerging in your area to combat this issue? How are we keeping the dream of affordable home ownership alive for young families? #HousingCrisis #AffordableHousing #EconomicDisplacement #CommunityDevelopment #NICRC2024 #SustainableLiving #HousingSolutions #AmericanDreamReimagined #HomeOwnershipChallenges #EconomicInequality #HousingPolicy

In contrast to site-built homes, manufactured homes are built in a factory, then transported in one or more segments and installed on a plot of land. Some of these homes are arranged in park communities. About 6.7 million US households live in manufactured homes. “Manufactured housing could help with the housing supply shortage, especially at the low-cost end, which I think is the hardest part.” – Eileen Divringi, community development research manager at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. Read our latest blog for more on these efficient, inexpensive, and in-demand units and how they’re building and empowering residents. https://bit.ly/4cMtMk4 #AffordableHousing #ManufacturedHomes #CommunityDevelopment
