I have a goal about taking a cabin ride with one of these trains. Pure uninterrupted speed and comfort of Deutsche Bahn ICE train. Hope this will take place this year. It’s also a perfect showcase of ballastless track application beyond bridges and tunnels. Our fascination with speed has driven technological advancements, and this video exemplifies the results of innovation and efficiency in Deutsche Bahn's rail infrastructure. German expertise is pushing rail travel to new heights, challenging the domestic flights - this is already happening. With European Union commitment to develop the TEN-T network, there's a great opportunity to shift rail travel to a serious position against aviation within the EU. Deutsche Bahn's proactive approach towards expanding high-speed rail further underscores their commitment to revolutionizing European transportation. While Spain, France, and Italy boast well-established high-speed railways, there is still a question popping up in my head: How do other EU states perceive that? Credit to TZVETOZAR VINCENT IOLOV 2024-01-11  Italy and Germany will finally get a high-speed train connection | TheMayor.EU https://lnkd.in/g-gv-Qfm Italy and Germany, the two large countries sitting on both sides of the mighty Alps are finally set to get a direct high-speed train link after at the very end of 2023, the national railway operators Trenitalia and Deutsche Bahn (DB) signed an agreement to that effect. The first route, which is in the works, is a service connecting Milan and Munich, passing through Innsbruck (Austria). The first Frecciarossa journeys between Italy and Germany are scheduled for the end of 2026, and the project has been considered exciting enough to be selected by the European Commission as one of its supported initiatives for cross-border services on the continent. Apart from the Milan-Munich route, which will be the first to be offered, there is already a plan also to develop a Rome-Munich connection. It should be noted that the Frecciarossa trains will operate on the Verona-Innsbruck-Munich route at conventional speed. However, the future route will be greatly improved with sections of line rebuilt to increase speeds and, of course, thanks to the Brenner Base Tunnel itself, currently under construction on both the Italian and Austrian sides. The signed agreement underscores the expansion ambitions of Trenitalia as the Italian railway company has proven really ambitious and assertive in getting out of the Appenine Peninsula and conquering the European market. Trenitalia already offers high-speed connections within Spain (with its Iryo subsidiary) and in France, by connecting Milan to Lyon and Paris.

Starting this month (Feb 2024) on AeroRoutes, I am starting new regular feature focusing on certain airport's frequency and capacity growth. At times there will be a rundown of operation changes in the past 10 years, but sometimes it will be focusing on the y-o-y changes, based on certain calendar weeks. Today (13FEB24) focuses on Tromsø (Avinor Airports of Norway, Route Development), one of the fastest growing international market in The Nordics region, with nearly 137% capacity increase based on Calendar week 8 comparison of 2023 vs 2024. As one may expected, this week's AeroRoutes' daily update is done from Tromsø, and later this week in Svalbard. EUROPE’S 300KM/H + HIGH SPEED TRAINS 🚆 🇪🇺 I’m on a 490km journey in one of Europe high speed trains going from France to Zurich and this thing is an absolute marvel. Even though it isn’t cheap for an weaker currency carrying African This super high speed train travels at 300km/h - with the ability to go to 400km/h if it wasn’t limited by track regulations - making it the fastest train in Europe. This train might not be faster than flying or necessarily cheaper, I mean this ticket cost return ticket for two people cost R6600, but this train offers more flexibility on things like luggage weight, goods that be carried and it better boarding experience and more scenic routes. Rail transport plays a key role in such Europe’s transport system and its set to continue. Between 2014–2020 Eur 18bn was injected into rail projects throughout the EU, 2021–2027 EUR 17 billion. Is it the end of “feeder flights”? ✈️ The debate over feeder flights for long-haul connections has always been a rather tricky one, specifically in Europe. From Geneva to Zurich, Munich to Frankfurt, Barcelona to Madrid, and beyond, airlines have long championed these flights as essential links between major hubs. However, in countries renowned for their robust rail systems - like the country where I have my center of life Switzerland🇨🇭- one question remains: Are feeder flights a thing of the past? Or are they here to stay? Take Switzerland where trains are 99% on time, where services run minimum every 30 minutes, and where direct airport stops are seamlessly integrated into the InterCity train network. In such a landscape, what rationale is behind the just renewed commitment to maintain these flights also in the future (👉🏻 link in the first comment)? For me it’s time to weave a new narrative as one unified mobility industry - one that celebrates efficiency, reliability, and sustainability specifically also for intermodal connections (Rail + Air). Let's be bold and combine different modes of mobility even better so that these flights become unnecessary. If not here, then where else? Due to an increasing demand for rail travel between Switzerland and Italy (mainly on Gotthard line), Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) is preparing for an expansion of its services with an order for five additional Giruno: an eleven car EMU multiple-unit with a top speed of 250km/h from Stadler.

Speaking here at Routes Europe 2024 in Aarhus, we had a great opportunity to take a closer look at the transformation of flying. The aviation industry is in the middle of a tectonic shift toward a sustainable future. Vast investments will be necessary from airlines, the wider industry and governments to achieve our goals. In these crucial years, it is paramount that decisions are made wisely and in close partnership with each other with our gazes firmly fixed on the goal: getting to fully sustainable aviation. And here governments should resist the temptation of feel-good initiatives like arbitrary national taxes that don’t bring us any closer to our shared goal. Therefore it is a strong decision by the Swedish government to roll back parts of the passenger tax. This will help secure continued investments in both sustainability and our Scandinavian infrastructure and connectivity. Thanks to Andreas Carlson for putting this issue forward. 🛫 Current figures from BER - Berlin Brandenburg Airport 🌍 📊 In December 2023, the #airport recorded a slight increase in passenger numbers: 1.77 million travellers compared to 1.75 million in November. An interesting look back: in 2019, before the pandemic, there were 2.6 million passengers. ✈️ With around 13,600 aircraft movements in December 2023, there were 1,400 more take-offs and landings than in the same month of the previous year. In total, #BER counted 23.07 million passengers in 2023, which corresponds to an increase of 3.22 million compared to 2022. Aletta von Massenbach, Managing Director of BER, emphasised: “Demand for air travel continued to increase last year. Around 20 million people used BER in 2023 for flights abroad and for flights from abroad to #Berlin. This corresponds to 73 percent of the pre-pandemic level and is a sign that people are continuing to prioritise holidays.
