When it’s time to stop and clear your mind, what do you do? I don’t just mean at the end of the day and you shut your laptop. I mean when your intention is specifically to zen out. I need to make stuff. Don’t care what. I just need to create. Paint-by-numbers is my latest thing. Can’t get enough of them. I can sit and paint from sun up to sun down and love every minute of it. Creativity and play are two of my values. They show up consistently. Sometimes I forget to give them the air time they need. And woah, do I feel it. So here’s to more creativity and play. Remember the old cartoons where a devil and angel were fighting it out on somebody's shoulders, trying to pull them into either direction? 👿 😇 As a systems coach I love to work with Friedemann Schulz von Thun's concept of "Inner Team", that inner system of different players who are watching out for us, fight for us and debate within us in often helpful but sometimes not-so-productive ways. Examining these inner players can bring clarity about allied and conflicting tendencies and voices within us. A variation of this and a challenge I received from my coach this week, was to select two objects that represent two of these voices that seem to be in conflict. I picked my son's Lego Hermione and Ron to examine my inner struggle between being very driven and my simultaneous need for calm and comfort. My task over the next weeks is to observe who wins out in which situation and why. What are they saying when they bicker with each other in typical Hermione and Ron fashion? And from that, what can they perhaps learn from each other? I love the playfulness of this idea!
