If only we adopted the same proactive approach here in NZ! Shockingly, in 2020 alone, 503 Kiwis lost their lives to melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer. Yet, what does our government do? They decide to cut all funding for Melnet, our equivalent of the prestigious Australian Melanoma Research Institute. Without Melnet, we're handicapped in our fight against melanoma and NMSC. This vital organisation fosters crucial communication and collaboration among professionals, all dedicated to reducing the incidence and impact of melanoma in New Zealand. Melnet not only facilitates knowledge-sharing but also drives the education and implementation of best practices in melanoma prevention and treatment. Our on-site workplace skin checks, conducted by our highly qualified and experienced dermoscopists, play a crucial role in supporting Melnet. However, we cannot sustain this effort alone. July was action-packed for our team at Mission-Driven Tech. Following our research presentation at the AMERICAN BRACHYTHERAPY SOCIETY World Congress of Brachytherapy meeting, we linked up with global strategic brand leader, Fredda Hurwitz, to host a beautiful event in her garden, An Evening on Equity and Innovation. We premiered our new documentary film, BrachyStories followed by a powerful panel discussion on Cervical Health, Cancer and Elimination. Co-founders Eve McDavid, Onyinye Balogun, MD MS, Research Lead Areion Allmond, and Tamika Felder, Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of Cervivor, Inc. led a group conversation on the current state of care and our efforts at Mission-Driven Tech to address alarming trends with modern tools and technology.
