Can public spaces be way more colorful? At 100architects, we believe they can—and they should. Earlier this year, in 2024, our Shanghai studio was the creative hub for designing one of our most vibrant metropolitan interventions: a bold and colorful public space in Astana, Kazakhstan. This project showcases how bold colors can reshape urban environments, capturing attention, sparking curiosity, and fostering engagement. By transforming ordinary spaces into dynamic and playful experiences, we create urban landscapes that resonate with energy and identity. Take a behind-the-scenes look at the design process that brings these concepts to life, blending creativity, experimentation, and bold design choices. #UrbanActivation #PublicSpaces #UrbanDesign #StreetArchitecture #EntertainmentHub #ColorfulDesign #MetropolitanIntervention #DesignProcess #100architects

**Understanding a City: Designing with Belonging at the Core** When it comes to urban design, designing new destinations and cities, there's a key ingredient often overlooked: the sense of belonging. Coming across these words from Renzo Piano reminded me of the importance of integrating a sense of belonging into design. The true essence of understanding a city and building meaningful places lies in creating spaces where individuals feel they belong and connect with the space, the architecture and its landscape. Placemaking isn’t just about the physical layout—it's about fostering connections, promoting inclusivity, and ensuring every resident feels at home, builds memories and grows as the place evolves along the years. #UrbanDesign #Placemaking #CommunityBuilding #CityPlanning #Belonging

FIND Global Summit 2024 | Challenging Conventions in Hospitality Design We believe that culture preserves and evolves a society's fabric as well as its sense of joy. Moving away from pastiches, our work seeks to engage meaningfully with the multiple layers of culture to devise a contemporary idiom. The context also determines our mode of engagement — some projects actively question the status quo, while others honour rich historical narratives. At the recently held FIND - Design Fair Asia Summit, Partner Sarika Shetty discussed how our design for the Dasavatara Hotel in Tirupati challenged conventions to craft a unique site-specific response, spatially and culturally. The Psychology of Urban Spaces: How Design Impacts Human Behavior Urban design is more than aesthetics—it shapes how we live, work, and connect. Incorporating psychology into architecture ensures spaces foster well-being, productivity, and social interaction. For instance, Singapore's Gardens by the Bay combines biophilic design with vibrant public spaces, creating a city oasis that promotes relaxation and community engagement. Similarly, SAT believes in designing projects that not only serve functional needs but also enhance mental well-being and community spirit. #UrbanDesign #HumanCentricSpaces #SATValues #BiophilicArchitecture

A project to boost tourism and economic development. The design process of a massive project summarized in 90 second.
What if a metropolitan park could be designed as a vibrant carpet of activities? Earlier this year, we had the privilege of designing a metropolitan-scale park in Astana, Kazakhstan—a space that goes beyond the traditional idea of a city park. Inspired by the rich heritage of Kazakhstan’s nomadic tribes, we envisioned this park as a massive, colorful carpet where every “pixel” serves as a unique activity or infrastructure. This innovative design transforms the park into a dynamic space, catering to people of all ages and becoming a true metropolitan attraction. The project blends cultural symbolism with contemporary urban design, pushing the boundaries of what public spaces can be. With every step of the design process, our goal was to create a vibrant environment that fosters interaction, engagement, and connection within the city. Take a look at the reel showcasing the entire journey—from the first concept to the final design. We are excited to share this glimpse of our work with you. #PublicSpaces #EntertainmentHub #UrbanIntervention #MetropolitanPark #KazakhstanDesign #UrbanActivation #100architects

On a lighter note... 🎶 Silo has been collaborating with Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam since 2009. This year, we're taking on a crucial new challenge: wayfinding! While the venue’s iconic architecture is celebrated, navigating its split-level floors and multiple entry points can be tricky—especially for visitors to BIMHUIS, the renowned jazz stage inside the building. Silo is creating a cohesive wayfinding strategy to make the space more intuitive, accessible, and welcoming, reinforcing its unique identity.
