Looking for a job in news? This is a role that will give you: - Creativity to help out in an "assignment desk" capacity. My digital content producers should always be pitching, developing and planning impactful content. You must have an understanding of the elements required to present the full story. - A place to be a self-starter. This is (in my mind) the single most important thing you can bring to the table. Don't wait for others to tell you who to call, what to chase and what questions to ask. You will have flexibility to be aggressive with news coverage and features for yourself and to pitch for our beat reporters in a way you can help maximize story telling. - Space to do the job. Instead of micromanagement, I'm more about macromanagement. You get freedom to do the job, as long as the job is done. Be prepared for -- the possibility of this role covering second shift/weekends. If that's a problem, news is probably not your jam. We don't keep bankers hours. Additionally, this is not a work from home role. You will have the flexibility to work from home during inclement weather and in other situations where we adapt to the day as best as we can -- but be prepared to work in the newsroom. There is so much inside your organisation that's interesting to the wider world. Hiring an editor-at-large is like having a can opener on a desert island and discovering a shipping container of tinned sardines. We immerse ourselves in the organisation, familiarise ourselves with your customers (both external, and internal) and their needs - and cast our magic wands to bring everything and everyone together through captivating and compelling stories. I cannot overstate the value for businesses brave to this opportunity. There's no better time to transform your customer communications into a profit centre. 3 things worth considering in hiring video editors overseas: 1) For sake of argument, let's assume they can edit just as good as editors here. Having said that, 2) I would think dealing with people who are fluent in your language would make doing business more seamless, especially if there's a lot of communication. If this isn't an issue for you, by all means, keep things as they are. But ease of communication is vital for just about any business. 3) Think the biggest concern to be aware of... what is the recourse (with international jurisdictions) in the event the person is shady and steals your footage? They might have charged you only $10 for the edit, but how many thousands of dollars of footage did you just send over? Maybe many are perfectly good people who do the right thing, but the thought of the wrong thing happening might make you lose sleep at night.

If you’re hiring solely based on skill, you’re blindly killing your business! Humans are a lot more than what they do. Someone who is a brilliant video editor, might have very different values than your business. So even if they can make the most amazing edits… They are not able to showcase your vision. Instead hire someone who: - Loves what you do - Loves how you do it When I started working with Sellfy I was a total beginner. But because I loved their content and mission so much… It made me work hard towards being a better editor. A good video editor doesn’t necessarily mean the most skilled one. It means the most passionate one.
