United for cancer and Cervical Cancer Eliminiation Globally, 1 woman dies from cervical cancer every 2 minutes. This is a needless tragedy, especially given that #EarlyDetection makes #CervicalCancer largely preventable and treatable! Exciting strides were made yesterday at our meeting with FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) at the #WHA77. We discussed initiatives aimed at eliminating childhood and cervical cancer, strengthening #BreastCancer programs, and enhancing #CapacityBuilding in low- and middle-income countries (#LMICs). With member societies in over 132 countries and territories, FIGO's global platform aims to achieve the highest possible standards of physical, mental, reproductive, and #SexualHealth for women. 💡 Our key discussion topics included: Strategic frameworks for countries like #SierraLeone. Mobilizing resources for better #PreventativeCare. Leveraging #ArtificialIntelligence without compromising quality of care. Addressing the challenge of retaining trained professionals in their home countries. Learn more about the World Health Organization efforts to eliminate cervical cancer here: https://lnkd.in/dihESN44 Together, we are making these commitments a reality. What?” 🎗️♀️ Post, we hone in on all the basics of this common gynecologic procedure: 🔬 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁? Colposcopy is a screening tool used as part of the preventive toolkit against cervical cancer. It is a visual method used to assess cervical abnormalities. 🤷♀️ 𝗪𝗵𝘆 and 🗓️ 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻? Colposcopy is most frequently performed after an abnormal cervical screening (a high-risk HPV DNA or “Pap” test that we discussed in our previous “Cervical... What” post) 👩🏽⚕️ 𝗪𝗵𝗼? Colposcopy is done by a trained 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘱𝘪𝘴𝘵– this can be a nurse, nurse practitioner, physician, etc. 🏥 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲? 😆 Will you be fooled this April Fool’s Day? Can you tell a FemTech TRUTH from a FemTech LIE? The FemTech sector is evolving and transforming every day ✨ but which of the below 7 inspiring stories isn’t real? ➤ Researchers believe that Google Search data could help detect ovarian cancer a whole YEAR EARLIER than a GP diagnosis ➤ Scientists are developing a device that fits inside a bra and is capable of monitoring whether a breast cancer tumour is growing ➤ Scientists are edging closer to making IVF eggs from a patient's skin cells. Like cervical cancer, uterine cancer is increasing and has a higher mortality rate in women of color. This difference is most likely because of less access to care, distrust of the medical community, and higher rates of obesity. The biggest risk factor is obesity, which is an epidemic in this country. The food industry has made us all addicts to sugar, which is in everything. Patients say that I want to put them on a keto diet: the problem is there is way too much sugar in most people’s diet. Abnormal uterine bleeding is one of the most common presentations and needs evaluation: minimal work-up should be a gynecological ultrasound and an endometrial biopsy (sampling the uterine lining). A hysteroscopy (looking inside the uterus with a scope) and a D&C (scraping the uterine lining) is the most thorough evaluation. I send all of my GYN cancer patients to a gyn oncologist so they can get the proper surgery. If a patient is tired of her menstrual cycle, there are many options to lessen her misery. Please get evaluated if you are having abnormal uterine bleeding.

For bladder cancer patients post-diagnosis, surveys reveal reduced quality of life and suboptimal health outcomes. Key factors include low awareness of symptoms, gender disparities and high recurrence rates that necessitate prolonged periods of care. To counter this, the top 10 policy recommendations from the white paper created by the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition and the European Association of Urology include: 8️⃣ Supporting patient groups at EU and national levels for greater bladder cancer awareness in primary care and among the general public regarding bladder cancer symptoms and risk factors. 9️⃣ Addressing the gender gap through enhanced healthcare professional training. Breast cancer in young women, while less common, can be more aggressive and challenging to detect early. The general guidelines for breast cancer screening primarily target women over 40, but for young women, especially those at higher risk, early vigilance is crucial. For the average young woman, the risk of breast cancer is lower compared to older adults, but certain factors can increase this risk, including: 🎗 A family history of breast cancer, especially if close relatives were diagnosed at a young age. 🎗 Genetic mutations such as BRCA1 or BRCA2. 🎗 A history of radiation therapy to the chest or breasts during childhood or early adulthood. 🎗 Dense breast tissue, which can make cancer harder to detect via traditional mammograms. Women with higher risk exposure, should consult their Doctor and discuss their health. Women identified as high-risk may start mammographic screenings before the age of 40, often as early as 25 to 30 years old, depending on their risk factors. While formal screening might not be recommended until age 40, being aware of the normal look and feel of their breasts and reporting any changes to a healthcare provider immediately is crucial for women of all ages. Ultimately, the approach to screening in young women should be tailored to their individual risk factors. Young women, particularly those at higher risk, should be proactive about their breast health ensuring they receive the appropriate guidance and screening based on their personal and family health history. . . . #gangahospital #gangabreastcare #breastcancer #breastsurgeon #breastscreening #breastcare #spreadawareness #breastcancerjourney #knowthesigns #educateyourself #breastcancertreatment #awarenesspost #breasthealth
