More than 150 years after the first #Juneteenth, we’re still fighting for true equality for Black people to have the same freedoms and opportunities afforded them like their fellow Americans. To institute and influence real change, it’s important we acknowledge what mistakes we must avoid again and commit to not repeating those horrible missteps. We should all seek to galvanize the desire for a community of true equality and inclusion for everyone. We need to ensure that voices are heard and action is implemented to nurture a culture of inclusivity and racial equity. The most important part of all this is to be accountable and truly commit to the often-times uncomfortable conversations to elicit authentic dialogue and change. Recognized as this country’s second #IndependenceDay, Juneteenth has left an indelible impact on our nation’s complicated history. For many Americans, it’s the birth of our modern country and the inauguration of the concept of absolute liberty and justice ALL. #Juneteenth #DEI&B #Inclusion #EqualityForAll Glenda CottleLakeydra HoustonDan Allinger, PCC, MNLP #3PT

Juneteenth: A Celebration of Freedom, a Reminder of Our Journey Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, with news of the Emancipation Proclamation, finally freeing the last remaining enslaved African Americans in the Confederate states. Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the enduring spirit of Black Americans. It is a day to honor and acknowledge their struggles and celebrate their contributions to the United States of America. It is a day to reflect on our history, both triumphs and injustices, and reaffirm our commitment to building a more equitable and inclusive society. Such an important day should remind us that diversity and inclusion are more than meeting hiring targets or checking boxes. They are about creating a workplace culture where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique perspectives and talents. They are about recognizing and celebrating our differences while also finding common ground and building bridges of understanding. Celebrating cultural events like Juneteenth is an essential part of this process. It allows us to learn about different cultures, traditions, and histories and connect more deeply with our colleagues. While we celebrate Juneteenth as a milestone in our journey to equality, we must also acknowledge that the journey toward true equality and justice is far from over.
