In the world of game development, iteration is inevitable. From conception to launch, each phase presents opportunities to refine and enhance a game’s design – but excessive iteration risks lowering team morale, endless delays, and even game cancellations. At 1518 Studios, we understand this well, and have drawn on the experience of our Global Art Director Arturo Pulecio to compile some best practices for normalizing changes throughout a game’s development in our latest blog: 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲. I have a quite gradual pace when it comes to level design, where, game eventually introduces more open and vertical areas. Its lots of fun exploring those and discovering hidden and alternative paths. Some of those can be totally missed out on a single playthrough even. #gamedev #unrealengine #videogames #gameplay

Which lessons from developers of Slay the Spire can we take? 🗡️ Recently I visited lecture The Mega Crit Way of Game Design and Iteration by Casey Yano (literally the best speaker I’ve seen in a while). Slay the Spire is a roguelike deck-building video game majorly developed by only 2 people. This story proves that even I small team can make a hit! Now we can wait for Slay the Spire 2! ⚔️ These actions helped developers a lot: - Defining Boundaries (concept, audience expectations, hardware, your skills) - Setting Milestones (goals, goals, goals) - Doing Internal Playtest (great motivator) And turning on airplane mode plus eliminating insidious sweets! Thanks, Game Habitat for organization and especially Eliana Oikawa for inviting such an amazing speaker! Have you played Slay the Spire? Do you know any similar small indie studios? ❣️ P.S. This pic pretty well describes me after a small vacation in Austria. #gamingindustry #gamedevelopment #gamedev #gamedesign #slaythespire

🐲 Our next speaker at Digital Dragons Conference 2024 is Mateusz P. Matusz Piaskiewicz - Principal Designer at Activision! 🪪 Buy your ticket https://lnkd.in/dsfSpvtp 👤 Mateusz Piaskiewicz is an experienced Level Artist and Designer. Working in the industry since 2006, he worked or consulted on many games, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Dying Light series, Dead Island series, and Call of Juarez series. Currently Mateusz works as a Principal Designer at Activision. 🟢 Topic: A Letter to My Younger Self - Fast Track to Advanced Level Design If I could transfer some of my current knowledge back in time to help my younger self, an aspiring level designer who doesn't know how much he doesn't know, I would give him the information from this presentation. I would emphasize how naive my assumptions were, how I misunderstood the players and human nature in general, and everything else that helps make great games. #digitaldragons #digitaldragons2024 #gamedesign #leveldesign #design #teamculture #collaboration #growingasadesigner

Hey everyone! I've been live streaming for a couple of weeks now, and this week it's becoming a lot more regular. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are my live streaming days on Twitch, where I start working on my game, Rise of the Village Hero, live. I'll be doing some level design, coding, or asset making. Most of the time will be spent on asset production like 3D models using Blender or level design, as the majority of the coding is already done unless new bugs are discovered and I need to intervene. I can share with you here some of the videos, so part 1 of 10 for live streaming is here: https://lnkd.in/ekZKah-t You can of course check out the live stream on https://lnkd.in/eeas6Wfy Additionally last week there are more parts on 3D modelling an amulet here: https://lnkd.in/eh_2J53q Hope you enjoy the content let me know your thoughts and perhaps I will see you next week on twitch.
