I deliver impactful community solutions for a just transition | Empowerment | Energy | Sustainability | Transformational Change Management
🔌Joining the regional energy dots🔌 Yesterday's The Energy Charter Ag and Energy Round Table was refreshing. An incredible array of speakers showcasing impactful and innovative tools and schemes that can solve the challenges in delivering our energy transformation well. I was personally excited to see much of the discussion focused on #Queensland, with nation-leading schemes in progress. I was also pleased to hear the emphasis on collaboration and systems thinking to design the holistic solutions we desperately need. In an attempt to fill this gap I've used participatory system mapping in my research with the Shape Your Energy Future program participants to collaboratively understand the 'whole of systems' challenges and solutions in Queensland's regional transition. I was pleased to see a lot of overlap in my findings and what's being discussed in terms of challenges and solutions. At it's core, it's really simple - include and listen to people. While the Queensland government's finalised Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Roadmap is a good step for getting the forward planning right, it doesn't go far enough in terms of in-flight #REZs. There are many who are being affected on the ground right now and we need to focus on solving these challenges and opportunities with greater urgency. The lessons from in-flight REZs, and indeed Queensland's past lessons with the CSG industry, should be used to inform REZ readiness planning in other regions over the next decade. In the roadmap, the Minister sis quoted saying REZs will ensure that communities benefit from the energy transition. While REZs create the opportunity, ensuring that benefits are delivered and equitably distributed requires a just transition approach. Coordinated top-down approaches are absolutely critical, but we also need to consider real lived-experience on the ground and ensure that coexistence delivers co-benefits. If you want to hear from on the ground community in the Western Downs and South Burnett regions, the public forum for the Shape Your Energy Future program is being held on 19th April in Miles and you can register here: https://lnkd.in/g89VzbJE. The theme is 'How do we build social license for the energy transition in our region?' Reports and findings from the program will be shareable within the next few months. I'll also be able to share my #research findings in June. I'm working through the analysis and it's super interesting! Here are some of the organisations in Queensland to follow that are leading the way: Queensland Farmers' Federation, The Energy Charter, GasFields Commission Queensland, Queensland Renewable Energy Council (QREC), Powerlink Queensland, Australian Rural Leadership Foundation and Queensland Conservation Council. #Collaboration is key - let's deliver a great transition together. If you're working in this space let's connect. #regionalenergy #agriculture #agrivoltaics #energytransition

We can indeed win the fight against destructive #ClimateChange, bringing people and communities along to benefit. I am currently reading Tom Steyer's new book Cheaper, Faster, Better (see link below) and next week I'll be attending RMI's webinar on their new report The CleanTech Revolution (again, see link below). There is plenty of reason for #ClimateOptimism if we can get our political leadership aligned for the benefit of people and the planet! https://lnkd.in/gvnBgpT2 https://lnkd.in/gn2qybJi

The recent COP28 comments clearly highlighted that most of the world is seeing that world through their own lens. It's easy when sitting in Europe to call for more behavior change and low tech transition. I have seen recently many new experts on Carbon Capture reminding their audience that it won't work and we should focus on planting trees...forgetting that we don't have enough land for those trees to capture enough carbon. The following presentation by Scott W. Tinker, PhD provides great insights on the challenges we are collectively facing and that we can only collectively solve #energytransition #renewables #livingworld

Since its founding, the World Energy Council has convened leadership conversations across the entire energy ecosystem. Rather than limit dialogue to traditional energy sectors, the Council has operated on the principle that far-reaching and impactful energy solutions necessitate equally far-reaching collaborations across the entire energy spectrum. It was this vision - a holistic, interconnected and truly international organisation that stood beyond national and regional politics – that inspired Daniel Nicol Dunlop to go beyond creating a purely technical institution in 1923. As he later told a friend: “I always had in mind the idea of enlarging this body of engineers to a body of experts of all branches of industry and agriculture.” The emphasis on convening truly global expertise continues to empower the Council’s mission and vision. A century after Dunlop planted his initial seed, the Council has blossomed into a vibrant community of more than 3000 energy leaders with a presence across 100+ nations. Together, we continue to work towards advancing clean and inclusive energy transitions for all by convening diverse and visionary leaders from every walk of life. For how can we look towards redesigning a new and truly global energy system for all if we do not listen and learn from each other? #energyleadership #energytransition #renewables #cleanenergy #sustainability
