Awards season is among us and it’s an exciting time for a lot of people. Awards are meant to recognize the hard work and growth of reps across geographies.  It’s no secret that it doesn’t always play out that way and sometimes folks fall into a successful territory. The only way we have to measure the success of a sales rep is to put a number to them. They exceed that number by a decent amount and it’s Presidents Club here we come!  While that is an accomplishment I don’t want to take away from, I’d like to offer a different perspective. Especially for those who show consistency but never seem to blow it out of the water enough to get on stage. It can be a bummer but it’s important not to lose focus.  I received a note from one of the nurse managers I work with after a recent procedure. There was a lot of last minute planning and logistics to ensure the patient was able to be treated urgently as they were very sick. Unfortunately we had a few obstacles in our way.  The message below means more to me than any award ever could, specifically that last part. For me, it’s as good as it gets. THIS is how I want to be seen and remembered. As the rep who above all else always put the patient first and would drop everything to ensure they received the care they needed and deserved.  All this to say if you don’t win an award for 2023, stay the course and remain focused on what matters most, the people we serve. I promise if you do, the competitive noise will fade and the people around you will see the value you bring. #patientcare #awards2023 #success

The next few weeks, I'm taking a summer break from the usual networking events to focus on one-on-one deep dive conversations with some of the best professionals in the life sciences and medical devices industry that I know. Tip of the week: Get on a leader’s calendar. Visibility and managing stakeholder relationships is critical to career success as a CTM. One easy way to make sure senior leaders at your company know your name and commitment is to meet with them. Once a quarter or twice a year is a great place to start. Focus on quality over quantity and come prepared with a few topics that can be discussed over 30 minutes, with a healthy mix of what’s working well (look for opportunities to highlight colleagues and say good things behind their back) and how you’re mitigating any challenges or risks. Open up and share a bit about yourself as appropriate. You may learn that you love the same genre of books, you’re going on a vacation later in the year that the leader goes to regularly, or that you both are passionate about your fur babies.
