Today marks World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, a crucial reminder of the ongoing global fight against human trafficking. This year's theme, "Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Human Trafficking," highlights a sobering reality: one in three trafficking victims worldwide is a child. Children in low-income countries are often trafficked for forced labor, while in high-income countries, they are more commonly exploited sexually. At Alvis, we are committed to fighting human trafficking. We partner with Franklin County's CATCH court to support women in their recovery through our CHAT program—Changing Habits, Attitudes, and Thoughts. This program offers safe and supportive treatment, along with sober housing, to help women rebuild their lives. Many of our clients have been trafficked by their own parents. Through our Family and Children's & Amethyst programs, we assist these women in healing, work towards uniting their families, and address the trauma experienced by their children. Our goal is to heal and unify families while breaking the cycle of trafficking from one generation to the next. #EndHumanTrafficking #180degreeimpact #alvis180

Teen intimate partner violence is a globally recognised issue with devastating impacts. In Australia however, it remains largely invisible. Nationally 1/3 (28.5%) of 18-19 year olds report having experienced IPV in the past 12 months. In Tasmania, this is as high as 40%. The violence and abuse they experience is horrific and being in a key developmental life stage means the impacts have significant implications for their current and future lives - and those of their future families. On Domestic Violence Remembrance Day, and the day National Cabinet is meeting with a specific focus on men's violence against women, let's acknowledge, remember and raise the voices of teens across the country who need immediate action that will prevent, provide safety, healing and recovery for all teens who need it. #teenIPV

This report for Human Rights for Kids has been over a year in the making, and I believe its findings should be a must read to anyone who want to talk about kids and the justice system. Unheard: The Epidemic of Severe Trauma Among Girls Tried as Adults details nearly universal severe trauma among women in the adult prison system who committed their offense as girls, including 92% reporting emotional abuse and 84% reporting physical and sexual abuse. If we seek to care about victims of abuse and trauma, we must turn our attention to the justice system, because that is where they end up when our existing systems fail to catch them. https://lnkd.in/eSmHxrH5

SNAICC welcomes the focus on children and young people in this new funding package. Family, domestic and sexual violence has a disproportionate impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. Addressing this through culturally informed and safe programs designed in partnership with ACCO services will be critical in making sure this funding impacts where it needs to – in keeping our children safe and breaking the cycle of violence. #childsafety #domesticviolence https://lnkd.in/gqfS2yf9

This year, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (@nsvrc ) is commemorating Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) with a campaign focused on building connected communities. According to the CDC and NSVRC, community support, access to basic needs, connection/commitment to school, and supportive household environments in which daily needs are regularly met are all protective factors in preventing sexual assault. Social justice efforts that expand economic mobility for individuals and families, and allow families to spend less time working and more time bonding, help cultivate strong, healthy communities that give individuals the power to speak up about abuse, and leave unhealthy situations. While long-term, policy changes are needed to address escalating income inequality, in the short term, MNRS is working to empower individuals and families with access to economic stability and basic needs. Together, we can build connected communities that help prevent sexual violence. #SAAM2024

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and on October 17 we come together to recognize Purple Thursday - a day dedicated to raising awareness and standing in solidarity with survivors of domestic violence. Domestic violence affects millions of people, regardless of age, gender, or background. In fact, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men aged 18 or older in the US experience severe intimate partner physical violence, according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV). Purple Thursday serves as a reminder that we must remain committed to breaking the silence and supporting those impacted by violence. Whether it's through education such as MyPwr Ltd., offering support, or simply standing in solidarity by wearing purple, we can all take action to foster safer environments. We also applaud the work of organizations and institutions that are working tirelessly in raising awareness to end domestic violence such as the U.S. Department of Justice, The Office on Violence Against Women , the National Domestic Violence Hotline, Break The Silence Against Domestic Violence, RAINN, and many others. Let’s use this month not only to spread awareness, but also to empower survivors, and work towards eradicating domestic violence in all its forms. Together, we can help build a future free from violence. #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth #PurpleThursday #SupportSurvivors #EndDomesticViolence #BreakTheSilence #WearPurple #MyPwrApp #Empowerment #SafetyForAll

💔 In 2016, a staggering 63.8% of multiracial women in America experienced intimate partner violence (IPV), making them the highest demographic affected by domestic abuse. Between 2016 and 2017 alone, approximately 375,000 women were victims of IPV. These numbers are not just statistics—they represent lives forever changed by violence. And it’s important to remember that this was before the world was hit by the Covid pandemic, during which domestic violence rates surged even higher. At Stronger Women, we are committed to helping victims of domestic violence become survivors, empowering them to reclaim their lives and heal from the trauma. Together, we can turn these numbers around. If you or someone you know is affected, you are not alone. Reach out, and let’s journey toward healing together. 💪❤️ #SupportSurvivors #DVAwareness #StrongerTogether #EndDV #DVPrevention
