Software Engineer and Consultant: Helping businesses grow online without a hassle. - Opinions are my own
Today, LLMs are everywhere, and anyone can easily build their own chatbots or implement RAGs in just a few hours. Conversational AI has become the norm, and we often take it for granted. When ChatGPT first launched in 2022, it felt like magic to me, and I couldn't even begin to comprehend how it worked. It still amazes me how much these models have improved over time. But how did it all start, and what powers these LLMs? These are just some of the questions on everyone's mind. This article is a great read and offers a deep dive into the story behind the Transformer model. Its puzzling that, despite being such a groundbreaking invention, Google didn't capitalize on it, while a small startup, OpenAI, saw the potential and took the lead. Even the creators of Transformers left Google to start their own companies. Its indeed a classic tale of what happens when an innovation-centered playground turns into a bottom-line-focused bureaucracy. #Transformers #Google #LLM #GPT
