In 1891, Elizabeth Rodgers and her fellow founders defied Victorian norms, founding what is now 1891 Financial Life. At a time when women’s possessions and even children were legally owned by their husbands, these visionary women successfully incorporated the organization, receiving a charter in 1894. For over 130 years, we’ve honored their legacy by providing financial stability and supporting communities through grants and volunteerism. As we celebrate Women’s Equality Day, we continue their mission, protecting families and empowering communities—one policy at a time. Happy #WomensEqualityDay! #1891financiallife #WomenFounders #BeyondLifeInsurance #WomenEmpowerment

Day 7: Week 1 Recap and Call to Action As we wrap up this week, we have touched on some of the most critical areas in human rights advocacy, from defending women’s rights to ensuring full inclusion for persons with disabilities. 🌟 Each topic we have discussed reminds us that promoting human rights is not just about laws or policies, it is about building societies where everyone, regardless of gender, ability, or background, has equal access to opportunities and dignity. But the conversation does not end here. Awareness is the first step, but what comes next is action. Whether it is advocating for equal pay, creating accessible spaces in your workplace, or supporting vulnerable groups in your community, every effort counts. The ripple effect of small changes can lead to transformative societal shifts. What stood out to you this week? Which issues resonated most? Now is the time to reflect on how you can make an impact. Here are a few ways to turn advocacy into action: Educate Yourself and Others: Share what you have learned. Host discussions, webinars, or talks in your community or workplace to spread awareness and inspire more people to get involved. Advocate Locally: Take action in your community. Whether it is organizing an event, volunteering with a local NGO, or participating in local policy discussions, grassroots efforts matter. Support Change-Makers: Align with organizations already making a difference. Whether through donations, volunteering, or simply amplifying their message, your support helps fuel ongoing advocacy efforts. Be a Voice: Speak out about injustice when you see it, whether it is in your personal network, at work, or online. Your voice matters, and sharing your perspective can inspire others to take action as well. Let us continue this conversation and uplift each other in the fight for equality and justice. How can you contribute to making your community a more inclusive, equitable place? Drop a comment, share your experiences, or repost to help keep the momentum going. Together, we can create a future where human rights are respected, protected, and celebrated for all. ✊ #AdvocacyInAction #RightsForAll #BeTheChange #HumanRightsMatter #TakeActionNow #InclusiveSociety #EmpowerCommunities

"Imagine you have over $300 million to invest in critical infrastructure that transforms people’s lives. Imagine your data tells you 50% of the people have very different needs from that infrastructure than the other half, but you ignore that detail. "...The theme for International Women’s Day is to “inspire inclusion” and this failure to include 50,000 women at all stages of their lives in an experience so fundamental to the human condition as having a place to call home is something we need to open our eyes to, as it ultimately impacts all of us. ...as we engage in our events and conversations this International Women’s Day, let’s use the opportunity to commit to truly seeing those women who have become so invisible to us. Let’s commit to taking action on women’s homelessness. 50,000 women, and their kids, are relying on it." In the pursuit of societal change, the adage “if you want to see change, be the change” rings true, serving as a shining example of inspiration for those advocating for progress. As the founder of The FEMCAST, my presence was emblematic of my vision for empowering women. Central to our mission is the pursuit of a society founded on principles of equality and justice for all. It is vital that we confront the harsh realities plaguing our communities, such as the alarming increase in child homelessness, a blight on our society that cannot be ignored. The statistics, indicating a 55% rise in child homelessness, serve as a glaring reminder of the urgent need for action. We cannot idly stand by while children suffer the indignity of living in cramped hotel rooms, deprived of stability and security. Likewise, the scourge of men’s violence against women, culminating in femicide, remains an affront to our collective conscience. These tragedies are not inevitable, they are preventable. It is upon us all to reject complacency and demand accountability. We must vehemently challenge the insidious narratives that seek to diminish the severity of these crimes and instead hold perpetrators accountable. The culture of victim-blaming must be dismantled, and women must be afforded the fundamental right to safety, in their homes, workplaces, and communities. #womeninpolitics #change #thetimeisnow #changeiscoming #feminist #TheFEMCAST #mensviolenceagainstwomen #violenceagainstwomen #genderbasedviolence #saferworkpalces #psychologicalsafety #equality #equity #humanrights #womensrights #womensrightsarehumanrights https://lnkd.in/eDtKcPFr

This sounds straight up like a corrupted organization. What happens is that one person is implanted into a great organization and then they corrupt through management and marketing. Money that is supposed to help the marginalized and impoverished soon just helps a few people that really do not need it. Next thing you know there are no clients just a couple of people sitting in a desk in a building really offering no services. Meanwhile they impoverished are victimized and thrown to the curb. We need to continuously call this out an find out legal ways to handle such destruction within out Frist Nations communities-and move fast to stop it.
Supporting culturally relevant data, evidence-based decision making, and First Nations data sovereignty.
How many more people need to be harmed until board takes action, including the indigenous women and families this org is meant to be helping. This makes it over 200 staff turnovers since new ED started in Nov 2016. Shame

Every statistic tells a story, and behind each number lies a person's pain. It's time we shed light on a harsh reality: individuals with disabilities, especially women, endure disproportionately high rates of domestic violence and sexual assault. Their vulnerability shouldn't be ignored or overlooked. We must listen, empathize, and take action. It's about advocating for safer environments, providing support systems, and empowering those who have been silenced by violence. Together, we can create a world where everyone, regardless of ability, feels safe and respected. #EndDomesticViolence #EmpowerSurvivors #DisabilityRights Equality Fund Girls First Fund Heising-Simons Foundation The Gupta Family Foundation Giving Women Co-Impact Circle of Sisterhood Foundation, Inc. Tonight the YWCA Hunter Region Inc. Board of Directors are meeting for the first time in 2024. Ahead of the meeting I have been reflecting on the first 8 weeks of 2024 and the current landscape for the women and families YWCA Hunter works with. Already this year we have seen the reports of women killed by their partners or ex-partners, we have read the challenges faced by women experiencing domestic or gender based violence in accessing adequate support, we have watched commentators diminish the influence and success of one of the most successful touring artists and business women and we continue to see the impact of homelessness and poverty on women, particularly aged 55 and over. Looking forward in the year, tomorrow will see the Workplace Gender Equality Agency publish the first set of private sector employer gaps and we are only one week away from International Womens Day a day of both reflection and advocacy (reminder: it is about more than cupcakes!) So what does this mean for an organisation like YWCA Hunter Region Inc.? It is a reminder to our board of volunteers, our staff and our supporters of why we do the work we do, why we dial in to our meetings after a full day at our jobs, whilst multi-tasking caring responsibilities and trying to remember if we drank enough water today. It is a reminder as to why we run our programs and why we prioritise providing safe and affordable housing to Hunter women aged 55+ and why the work of this 100-year-old organisation is just as relevant today. https://lnkd.in/g_i7pFwt
