Stop considering money a bad thing. I understand you are an artist, there is an integrity that comes with this profession, but to act like "some people are only here for money" does not make someone bad. Money can provide you the influence, the upper hand, the edge over the competition that will only enable you to make what you wished. Bollywood, Hollywood, Mollywood, all the woods are here for the money. That's the reason we call it a film industry. They are not NGOs. They want to see money flowing in. They will take the easiest/safest roots to cash in whatever they can, that doesn't make them bad. It is a part of system. Many of them will fail, but one with the awareness will rise above. And awareness is the key. Awareness of knowing what would be the best time to pitch in, to make what you wish to. To filmmakers, I would suggest to take your time learning more about production. More about distribution. More about how to get your money back, but with profits. Take your time in your learnings. And make money. Please do. And do it with awareness, with a smile and with both your arms open. I would not say hustle. I would say take a nap. And relax. And enjoy the journey you are into. #Filmmaking #Production

Don't let gatekeepers and liars bleed you dry. My friends in filmmaking... Have you ever added up how much you spend in a year on: - Contests - Review services - Programs and grants - Film and screenplay festivals? For me, it was sometimes $2-4K. And I'm pretty conservative about my spending on this stuff. And then I mostly stopped altogether. Sure, there are success stories. They are mostly there to convince you that "it could happen to you." There are some organizations, also, that truly help filmmakers. Or that are worth the upside. You can count these on a hand or two. To be clear, I'm not talking about those examples. But the rest of them? They aren't going to move you forward. Save your money. Literally. Put it aside. Use it to make something. Then send THAT to a local or regional festival that actually cares about you. Deliver it to the audience you've built over time. We doubled our audience after each film. Except for with The Sleepless. That was watched by 5X more people than my previous feature. Look at how hard everyone is fighting right now, to keep working and creating. Wouldn't you rather empower yourself? Pay your bills however you can. Focus on the doing. Not on getting noticed. You might be surprised at what happens. And you'll definitely feel better. #indiefilm #independentfilm #filmmaking #filmmaker #filmproducer #filmdirector #startupfilmmaker #creators #creatoreconomy

Review of the Week: Paranormal Activity 📹 👻 Original Budget: $15,000 Final Cost: Approximately $200,000 after post-production Box Office: $193 million worldwide Paranormal Activity's success stems from its ingenious use of suspense to create fear. Director Oren Peli employed a found footage style, allowing viewers to experience the terror through the characters' eyes, making the experience feel real and chilling. The film focuses on what we can't see, using subtle scares and nighttime silence to build tension. Much of the horror comes from the everyday—a couple's home and their nightly routines—turning a normal space into a setting for supernatural fear. The ghostly presence is felt rather than shown, making every creak and flicker of light seem threatening. Peli used grassroots marketing smartly, leveraging social media and word-of-mouth to create buzz. A clever “demand it” campaign invited audiences to request screenings in their towns, building excitement and engagement before the film's wide release. The film initially premiered in 12 college towns on September 25, 2009. After reaching one million online requests, Paramount expanded it to a wide release on October 16, with even more theaters added on October 23. Paranormal Activity's success marked a shift in horror trends. It outperformed the popular “torture porn” films of the time, with its $193 million gross, surpassing even the highest-grossing Saw film (Saw II at $148 million). This success ushered in a new era of paranormal-themed horror, influencing franchises like Insidious and The Conjuring. The moral of the story remains: with a clear idea, strong characters, and the use of familiar settings, you can create a terrifying experience without fancy special effects. Paranormal Activity serves as a reminder that sometimes, less real is more in horror storytelling. Most Hollywood films, despite their vast variety, follow the same basic plot structure! This structure is called the "hero's journey," and it involves a protagonist going through a series of challenges, transformations, and ultimately achieving some kind of victory. So next time you watch a movie, see if you can spot the hero's journey in action. You might be surprised by how many films you can trace back to this ancient storytelling technique! 🤔 #Storytelling #Films #Hero #Hollywood #ContentMarketing #Stories #UpgridMediaTeam
