Ever felt like your hard work whispers while others' mediocrity shouts?
You're not alone.
It's surprising, isn't it?
You could be the always-available genius behind every project,
always hustling,
always solving problems.
BUT if when it's time to step up and chat face to face with the big bosses, you clam up, or WORSE,
You become all jittery and say all the wrong things in a jumbled-up mess.
Here's your wake-up call:
Being promoted isn't just about your work or results; it's about how you present it and showcase yourself.
That's what Sara (name changed for privacy) learned when she joined my coaching program. Until then, she was the invisible hardworker.
Always diligent, learning and upskilling. Always available to solve problems for the managers and team.
When the layoffs started, she naturally started panicking. Her biggest fear came true a few weeks later, when she was told she may be let go.
No one cared about her mortgage, young kids, or the fact that keeping her infact was crucial for the business.
We can blame everyone. But often when things go wrong, we need to draw on the few elements that we may actually have control over.
Which is, how we view and handle the situation. And see what lever we have within our influence.
We discussed which stakeholders (internally and externally) she could reach out to, and package and position her value powerfully as the captain the business needs.
Yes, though the layoff was highly possible, we still decided to give it a shot.
Because of how she packaged her support and value to the organisation, she was given a chance to present her ideas and solutions to the top management.
It was a difficult meeting, she never really had presented to top management before, anywhere. But that's the power of having me by her side, as her coach and mentor.
She had been working on elevating her confidence levels with me anyway. Along with that, we worked on the Value-Vision-Ask (my signature framework) on how to present persuasively to top management specifically.
The meeting went well. But the job-security was still under question.
But you know what... in a week she was told that she would get a job correction, to two levels up. Her unsupportive manager was completely surprised.
But we don't care about that. We care that she finally got her due, despite adverse circumstances.
...
You may have seen glimpses of your life in Sara's situation. If so, it is time to act.
