Are you aware of how subtle micro aggressions can impact communication? A recent encounter highlights how referring to someone by an outdated term can be harmful. Despite introducing herself by name and title, a woman was referred to as a "stewardess" by a male counterpart. This outdated term is not only inaccurate but also perpetuates gender stereotypes. Would he have asked a male pilot the same question? It's important to be mindful of the language we use and how it can affect those around us. #microaggressions #communication #genderstereotypes

In Brighton (UK), Sea was invited to speak at the IATEFL Joint LitSIG and YLTSIG Pre-Conference Event 2024: Diverse voices: literature and film in the YLT classroom. You can listen to the talk here: https://lnkd.in/dh33x5Mk The session explores gender nonconformity and the importance of freedom, imagination, creativity and acceptance. It shares practical ideas for exploring identity in the classroom based on the picturebook ‘from the stars in the sky to the fish in the sea’ by Kai Cheng Thom. Sea also shares their voice and how they relate to this book. As the UK government bans discussions of “the concept of gender identity” in classrooms, it’s important to have in mind: “If we are first taught that this system is all hard edges, sharp corners and absolute rules, we are simultaneously ingesting a message that there are distinct limits around what the mind is capable of conceiving and creating; around what an individual can possibly do and be and become.” hicks (2016) You can buy this book here: https://lnkd.in/dfBEdV5x #eltonix #teacherdevelopment #socialjusticeeducation #inclusion #diversity #education #creativity #educationconsultancy #lgbtqia

As an Indian, I cannot ignore such racism even though I refrain from posting on such issue The recent Baltimore bridge incident highlights a glaring disparity in the Western mindset, especially among Americans. Despite the nation's rhetoric on values and human rights, the public's illiberal behavior, including racist comments targeting the Indian crew onboard, falls short of these professed ideals. It's crucial to acknowledge that the pilot of the ship isn't Indian but rather an American marine pilot. Let's not preach what we can't practice. if you also protest such behaviors do like it and share your thoughts in comments below #ValuesGap #HumanRights #InclusionMatters #GlobalMindset #LeadByExample #AntiRacism

This is why we need more & more women in leadership, to be able to enable structure, policies to have better ratio in workforce. Very well explained here by Indra Nooyi . Something also very well written in a book by Sheryl Sandberg, ‘Lean In’ exploring the barriers that hold women back from achieving their full potential in the workplace. The 9-5 structure may not suit all and we need to change with the time. #womeninwork #diversity #leadership #flexibility https://lnkd.in/gUj_HWeM

Product & UX Designer | Designing for Purpose and Impact | Driving Human-Centric Solutions that Achieve Business Goals
Grateful to Vidushi Goel for sharing this insightful video. There are so many nuggets of wisdom in this episode, especially about the power of small actions and interactions. In a world fixated on grand gestures, it's refreshing to be reminded of the impact of everyday interactions🌍 The segment on 'enoughness' particularly resonated with me. As Melinda French Gates and Michelle Obama eloquently stated, "We all are born inherently valuable and inherently different." This powerful reminder is an antidote to imposter syndrome and feelings of inadequacy. 💪 Key takeaways: - Small actions can lead to significant change - Embracing our inherent value and uniqueness - The importance of 'enoughness' in personal growth What insights did you find most impactful?

This segment on enoughness, proving yourself, belonging, and overcompensating to meet the world's expectations struck a chord with me as I navigate the job market again. Embrace your unique strengths and let that inner voice ring loud and clear: "I am amazing, haven't you heard?" In a world where the pressure to constantly prove ourselves looms large, it's crucial to remember that our value isn't defined by external expectations, biases or barriers. Despite the challenges and the naysayers, keep pushing forward. You are more than enough. We are more than enough. #Enoughness #Empowerment #Diversity #Inclusion https://lnkd.in/e3VSyrga

https://lnkd.in/dQKNZnca Woman card should be banned. Equality power and legit power should be promoted rather than girl power. When people can't respect bad men, they shouldn't force men to respect bad women. Good men should always be respected the way good women should be respected. Not being ready for gender neutral laws is not godliness at all. Everything shouldn't be women's choice if everything can't be men's choice. Putting the tag of bad over every male and the tag of good over every female is not fair. We need to care for males too, just like how we need to care for females. When harassing a female is not fair on the part of a male, harassing a male is not fair on the part of women as well. When a female files cases such as rape case, molestation case, sexual harassment case, or any other type of case of heinous acts against a male, arresting that male without doing investigation is not fair. Not letting men file even genuine cases of heinous acts against the women is not fair. Whichever punishment can be given to a man harassing a woman or any other man, that same punishment should also be given to a woman harassing a man or any other woman. Laws should be reformed as soon as possible at all costs. #StopHarassmentOfMen #SayNoToDoubleStandards #SayNoToMisandry #StopToxicFeminism #UnreasonableMasterManipulativeTacticsNotAcceptable #DoNotLetWomenEscapeAccountability #DoNotPutWomenOnPedestal #GoodMenAlsoDeserveToBeCaredFor #StopStigmatizingOfPainsOfMen #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo #MenToo

The future of aviation is in good hands.
Yesterday's X space discussion on empowering women in aviation, hosted by the Avihub Network was insightful, to say the least. I can confidently say that the days of men dominating the aviation industry are long gone. As Aretha Kimani pointed out, social media has played a major role in exposing women who aspire to fulfil various roles in the industry. Mentorship programs like those mentioned by Mercy Makau have also played a major role in sharpening young women's visions and providing them with the opportunity to get a feel of what their aspirations are like. Penninah Njeri Nginyo Ngugi , a senior airworthiness inspector at Kenya Civil Aviation Authority amalgamated her fellow guest speaker's points by highlighting the importance of making informed career choices that integrate one's life calling. In case you missed it, you can listen to the recording by clicking on the link below. https://lnkd.in/dy5zxnhi

★ Office Management | HR | Executive Assistant | Communication ★ Innovative, resourceful and adaptable individual resolving challenges for the team's success
Since we started celebrating International Women's Day on Monday here at InterSystems, I've had time to calmly reflect on this year's theme: Inclusion. Today, I'd like to share a powerful TED Talk by the talented America Ferrera that addresses the term Identity: https://lnkd.in/dgf9uJ3X Inclusion. Identity. Both big words and both intertwined. When I browse social media, I come across countless posts, visuals, and slogans about how Inclusion is all about embracing different identities and realities, seeing value in them and acknowledging the greatness of diversity. But how do we manage our own identities? Especially when they don't fit into the "broadcasted norm" or the assigned stereotype box? One of my prides is my language skills. I always say with a smile, "I speak 7 languages." But sometimes, that smile is hesitant, hard to hold, because the unspoken end of the sentence, "with a Spanish accent," can be a burden in certain environments. The ever present doubts.. are we meant to seek perfection and speak languages without our own accents, without our identities shining through? Or is it too stereotypical when we do show our accents? Will my message have a different impact depending on whether my audience can see or hear my identity? Identities encompass a wide array of nuances and are linked to various stereotypes. And nuances are endless. So, what a challenge in front of us! But it's a feasible one. As America says, "we don't need challenges to be easy, just possible". I am certain, it is possible to embrace diversity while recognizing that everyone around us has their own individual challenges. We are all on the same quest: to embrace ourselves so that we can embrace diversity. So here my challenge to all of you for the rest of the month: Transversal Inclusion, from the core of our soul to all possible destinations. Who's in?! 😎 #IWD2024 #InspireInclusion #DEIEverday #Diversity
