Last week, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred provided an update that no automated ball-strike (ABS) system will be available until 2026 at the earliest. While I understand the frustration with blown calls by referees or umpires, be very careful what you wish. An every pitch ABS (based on the current strike zone) would change the game significantly by: 1) increasing the value of pitchers who can throw high strikes and shorter (5'9" and below) everyday players while 2) reducing the value of taller players - including some of today's biggest HR hitters. While taller players (upper portion of strike zone is ~4') may get called for strikes below their knees, high "strikes" (where the least amount of offense is generated) is generally disregarded (the top two charts below). Meanwhile, shorter players (bottom portion of the strike zone is ~ 1'4") are more likely to have their strike zones expanded above the upper limits (as seen in bottom two charts). To give some perspective how much would the (W)NBA change if the diameter of a basketball hoop was increased or decreased by 1"-2"...and on a shot by shot basis? https://lnkd.in/e_DWqiCw

Please check out my latest #3Strikes video below. Two weeks ago, I attended a baseball game between the Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers as it was Mexican Heritage Night 🇲🇽. The White Sox lost the game - and the White Sox have lost a LOT of games this season as they have the worst record in Major League Baseball. The White Sox have been mired in a season-long slump. We are all like the White Sox as we will also find ourselves to be in prolonged slumps on occasion. Lengthy slumps happen to everyone - even the President of the United States. We all get into slumps in our professional and personal lives and the key is to get out of that slump as soon as we can. In my video, I provide these 3 tips on how to break out of a slump: ⚾️ Embrace Change: When you are in a prolonged slump, it is important to adapt and change what you have been doing. ⚾️ Get Help: Seek assistance and advice from those you trust to help end your slump. ⚾️ Stay Positive: While it is easy to become down and out when you are stuck in a slump, try to remain as optimistic as you can with a positive attitude as better days are ahead. Please share in the Comments section below what you do to break out of a slump. Thanks for listening!

Food for thought: Using Dan Meyer’s 2015 formula to calculate the average strike value (0.14 runs per strike), this is the breakdown of the 2023 regular season value catchers provided with runners on 3B (minimum of 4,000 pitches seen with a runner on 3B). All but four provided negative value over the course of the season in situations with a runner on 3B. There is a direct correlation between stance and value provided in certain situations. The one-knee down stance is a phenomenal tool for catcher to utilize when providing enough value to offset the risk of runs scoring. However, there is a lack of adjustment among catchers at the highest levels of the game. There is something to be said for personal comfort, and not every catcher on this list utilizes a OKD stance exclusively. For those that don’t they need to make drastic improvements in their approaches to receiving AND blocking. For those who do, a less-anchored position would be helpful in lessening the negative risk. Catchers can create enough leverage from a two-foot secondary position, and establish an angle of attack that accomplishes 95% of what they could achieve on one knee (and that’s assuming they actually provide positive value from that position to begin with, which a great deal of MLB catchers do not). The added range and athleticism on two feet would help mitigate the risk of a runner at 3B from scoring. Does this mean that catchers will need to add mechanical approaches to that skill they have not currently been implementing? Yes. It most assuredly does. And I won’t pretend like that is A.) easy, or B.) comfortable. In fact it’s incredibly uncomfortable for athletes, who’s livelihood is reliant on their comfortability with their skillset, to make such a drastic change. But the alternative is to continue providing negative value to their organization in the most critical moments of the game.

#RBAformations One of the main strengths of the 4-2-3-1 lies in the partnerships on the flanks. The full-backs and wide midfielders work in tandem to dominate the sides of the pitch. The full-backs push forward to support attacks. This pairing creates overloads on the wings, allowing for dangerous crosses, cutbacks, or combination play. In the middle of the pitch, one of the two holding midfielders often has a more offensive role, in which they are encouraged to push forward and join the central attacking midfielder. This movement creates a strong presence on the edge of the final third, forming a fluid line of creativity and passing options between central and flank midfielders. #football #soccer #footballanalysis #RBAanalysis --------------------- Follow us for more insights!
