#BookClub by #WomenInChemicals Just finished reading the last chapters of the Q2 book before the gathering on June 20th, ordered the Q3 one. And feeling sentimental. Last year in June, the last gathering on the "Brave, not perfect" but the first one to me. I just picked up the newly ordered pack with the book. Not being able to read a whole book to know what was it about. So just read the chapters planned for the last discussion not being sure if it was enough to join. On top, being scared of coming to the meeting as I hadn't been a book club member never before. I didnt know what was it about, if I had been capable to debate, express myself in a clever way, if I had been capable to show up as a smart reader. I also didn't want to join and say nothing as in my view at that time that what a book club was about. To tell smart things, to be able to understand what the book author meant and translate it into highly intellectual way of saying what the chapter was about and what's my view on this. Oh my goodness, a lot of anxiety, self-doubt, fear of being judged, and on top of that taken for a stupid person for not expressing myself clearly and adequately in English 🥴 The book club hosted by Women in Chemicals is a totally safe space. You join and participate as you like or feel comfortable. You want to share, you do it. You just want to listen to what others say, you do it. It's all OK. It is better for you to share in writing, the WiC forum a safe space for members only, is there for you do so. As the reflective questions for discussion are posted there throughout the quater. It is all OK. This is all what I enjoy in the WiC's programs and events. I decide what I take and how much I give. I decide how I show up. I have all the options to express myself and share with other members, to give back to the Community. What is the best to me in it, it is the safe space to step out of my comfort zone without being judged. And I do it. Was afraid of discussion in English which not my first language with native English-speakers (when I talk with European fellow citizens for whom English is not a first language as well, I dont have all the fears, interesting)? I gave it a try. Wasn't sure if what I thought about the book chapters content was valuable? I shared my experience that I believed was relevant. As when other readers share their thoughts and experience too, I learn a lot. And I am so grateful to them for this. So, I encourage you to join the Book Club and other events.
